George Clooney Arrested

Via NY Daily News: "George Clooney says he has more clout as a heartthrob-turned-activist than he'd ever have as an a politician. Clooney made the rounds on the Sunday talk shows after being arrested for protesting outside the Sudanese embassy in Washington last week. He is calling on the US to intervene diplomatically to stop violence in in the border area between Sudan and South Sudan — and to get humanitarian aid into the region. "I think I actually have a lot more influence on it here," Clooney told NBC's "Meet the Press"...".* Cenk Uygur, Misty Kingma and former prosecutor Steve Oh break it down on The Young Turks. Obama's Mortgage Task Force is a Joke

Via NY Daily News: "Three months ago, in his State of the Union speech, President Obama announced a new task force to investigate mortgage fraud and bring some measure of relief to the 12 million American families who are either losing their homes or in danger of losing them. The new Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities Working Group would be co-chaired by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, US Attorney John Walsh of Colorado and three Washington insiders from the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Obama said, "This new unit will hold accountable those who broke the law, speed assistance to homeowners and help turn the page on an era of recklessness that hurt so many Americans." Whether or not the President, attorney general and others intend to get around to this task someday, "speed" was a terrible word to choose. Because 85 days after that speech, there is no sign of any activity...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. No hate crime conviction for Black racist Hakim Scott

www.nydailynews.com www.nydailynews.com Keith Phoenix faces murder, manslaughter and assault charges, as well as hate crime charges. He is accused of attacking Jose Sucuzhañay and his brother with a bat in December 2008. Prosecutors contend it was a bias crime. They say the victims were attacked because they were Hispanic and because their attackers thought they were gay due to the fact they were walking arm-in-arm. Defense lawyers have denied that bias played a role. The other man charged in the attack, Hakim Scott, was convicted of manslaughter yesterday, but found not guilty of murder and hate crime charges. Sucuzhañay's family was disappointed by the verdict. His brother gathered with lawmakers on the courthouse steps today to denounce the decision. "This process has brought out all the memories that we went through almost two years ago, when Jose was attacked and we went to the hospital and we tried to stay optimistic that Jose would survive," said Diego Sucuzhañay, the victim's brother. "Now we know he won't survive, he won't come back, but at least we hoped the system would send a message so that there are no other Joses." "They got it wrong; Jose Sucuzhañay was murdered because Hakim Scott and Keith Phoenix did not like who he is and who they thought he was," said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. "And they attacked him, by all accounts, for no other reason than their hatred of the LGBT community and their hatred of Latinos and immigrants. That's what killed ...
