thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com Life insurance is a contract between the policy holder and the insurer, where the insurer promises to pay a designated beneficiary a sum of money (the "benefits") upon the death of the insured person. Depending on the contract, other events such as terminal illness or critical illness may also trigger payment. In return, the policy holder agrees to pay a stipulated amount (the "premium") at regular intervals or in lump sums. In some countries, death expenses such as funerals are included in the premium; however, in the United States the predominant form simply specifies a lump sum to be paid on the insured's demise. The value for the policy owner is the 'peace of mind' in knowing that the death of the insured person will not result in financial hardship. Life policies are legal contracts and the terms of the contract describe the limitations of the insured events. Specific exclusions are often written into the contract to limit the liability of the insurer; common examples are claims relating to suicide, fraud, war, riot and civil commotion. Life-based contracts tend to fall into two major categories: Protection policies -- designed to provide a benefit in the event of specified event, typically a lump sum payment. A common form of this design is term insurance. Investment policies -- where the main objective is to facilitate the growth of capital by regular or single premiums. Wheeler Occupation at UC Berkeley - Arrest of Professor Robert Dudley
Several dozen students occupied Wheeler Hall on UC Berkeley's campus on November 20, 2009 after the UC Regents voted to increase student fees by 32%, have laid off lecturers and custodians and cut courses, but still have refused to make their budget transparent, showed poor leadership in times of a financial crisis, and continued to use UCPD in becoming more aggressive against student protests and demonstrations (using tear gas and tasers at other protests on other UC campuses), and even harassing students about holding up banners--threatening them with arrests while confiscating such materials. Students barricaded the doors to lock themselves inside. Police had riot gear and attempted to remove them in the early morning using tear gas and tasers. They failed, only arrested a couple, and the majority of students barricaded themselves on the second floor. As students and faculty rallied around the police "DO NOT CROSS" tape, professor Robert Dudley of Integrative Biology was bold enough to cross the line and be arrested in the peaceful demonstrations of solidarity with the occupiers.

Occupy Cal Berkeley Protest - Police Brutality.As the evening wore on, the crowd swelled as protesters debated whether to stay overnight.at least 39 protesters were arrested on Wednesday at the Berkeley campus, the epicenter of the statewide college protests. Another 11 students were arrested at UCLA. The university reported earlier that an administrator had told the protesters they could stay around the clock for a week, but only if they didn't pitch tents or use stoves or other items that would suggest people were sleeping there. The protesters voted not to comply with the demand and to go ahead with setting up a tent site they dubbed "Occupy Cal" to protest financial policies they blame for causing deep cuts in higher education spending.Protesters put up tents in defiance of Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, who on Wednesday said that while the university shares many principles with Occupy activists, they would not be allowed to set up camps on campus or take over any buildings.

The FREE MARC EMERY campaign attended Justice Minister Rob Nicholson's office in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on Thursday, June 10th. Head organizer Jacob Hunter was immediately assaulted and arrested by a Niagara Falls Policeman. The FREE MARC campaign was at Conservative MP Rob Nicholson's constituency office to stage an "occupation" sit-in protest, similar to dozens that have taken place across Canada. The protests are a response to the extradition and imprisonment of Canadian activist, businessman, and BC Marijuana Party leader Marc Emery. Marc Emery was extradited to the US for a 5-year federal prison sentence for selling seeds, even though he never left Canada. Vancouver police failed to have him charged here in 2003, then worked with US law enforcement to have him charged down there in 2005. Rob Nichsolson signed the extradition order himself on May 10th, 2010, which is the reason he was targeted by the FREE MARC campaign. The FREE MARC campaign leaders, Jodie Emery and Jacob Hunter, had done the same in Prime Minister Stephen Harper's office in Calgary on May 19th. Arrests have been attempted by police at almost all occupation/sit-ins, but the Constitutional Right to protest, and the fact that MP offices are public space paid for by public tax dollars, allowed for every occupation to proceed.
