Edit: If you're interested in buying an SSD based on just having quicker boot up times then I recommend you don't. A clean OS on a HDD or a RAID 0 set-up could probably boot in pretty similar times. You should want to buy an SSD because it will let you have way more programs on start up with minimal performance impact, because it will make your overall user experience much more snappy and finally because it will remove the bottle neck on your expensive RAM and CPU and allow them to perform at the speed you were expecting when you bought your fancy new computer. :) In this video I compare the loading speed of the new OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD to the speed of a Western Digital Caviar Black 1000GB HDD with impressive results ( for the SSD at least). A brief look at the OCZ Vertex 3 SSD with the new Sandforce 2281 controller. I have a close look at the drive itself, talk about the specifications of the test system and then run some benchmarks. I compare the Vertex 3 to single drive and RAID 0 results of the Vertex 2, which has the older Sandforce 1200 controller. I am really not impressed with the SATA 3 controller on the Rampage III Extreme. It is severely bottle-necking the Vertex 3. I bought 2 vertex 3 120gb from a local store a couple weeks ago. I wish I never bought these. I have 4 other SSDs (diff brands) all over 2 years old. I started having problems a couple days after I bought these. My comp would lock up, searching the web or in a game, completely random. When I would restart I had a corrupted boot sector every time. This happened on both drives multiple times each. Both were clean with nothing on them. I thought it was my board at first so I went from a classified e760 to a classified e770. But it still happened at random and I couldn't find a way to duplicate. I was so mad because I thought I lost everything. Or I thought. I put the drive in an external hard drive bay and was able to grab files off the drive. I thought great, maybe I can boot with it now since I can see the contents of the drive. Put it back in but the boot sector is corrupt. This has happened with both new drives on 2 different boards. I have run every kind of test I can think of. I am back to using my other drives from a different brand with no problems whatsoever. I have tore this computer apart and put back together so many times I could do it blind folded. I tried different cables different ports different boards sata 2 sata 3, i changed memory power supply everything. I am tired of messing with it. It's not easy to do with the water cooling setup. Oh just RMA it??? NO, I will return these and go with a different brand. Why? I paid over $600 for these drives to run in <b>...</b>
