Carol Burnett & Tim Conway in the Park - 1978

From the home stretch of The Carol Burnett Show - January 1978. Here we get an extended look at one of Carol's characters close up. Notice she manages to work in an unexpected joke - probably as payback to Tim for sneaking it in on her in the "family" sketch... Saturday night... and television... really lost something when this show left the air.

Charles Nelson Reilly in his element!

Besides the game shows, I'll always remember CNR as a talk show fixture on television in the 70s, cracking wise and telling funny stories. Here, with Phyllis Newman, Jack Albertson and our beloved Johnny, he creates an entire subroutine out of his race against the steady signaling of the floor director - who keeps reminding him his time is running out - while simultaneously telling us about one of his adventures in New York... We love you, Charles... and goodnight from Hollywood!

Bea & Rock Are Turnin' On - 1980

To celebrate my 1000th subscriber, I'm reposting the first video I ever posted to YouTube back in 2005! Bea and Rock sing a song from the 1977 Musical "I Love My Wife" - which was directed by Bea's husband Gene Sacks. From The Beatrice Arthur Special

Charles Nelson Reilly and Lucy

Here's a great clip of Charles Nelson Reilly holding his own with Lucille Ball. He would later say she taught him a very important thing at the table reading for this show that he remembered and used many times - "Good joke, wrong place."

ON THE FLIP SIDE - Rick Nelson, Joanie Sommers 12-7-66

The only original Bacharach / David musical written for television. Songs were lip-synched, so stereo tracks were incorporated into this version. Rick was in transition from teen idol to adult artist. Though not successful as a whole, it's still fascinating as a musical video artifact from over 40 years ago!

Paul Lynde pays a visit to Dean's place - 1970

Dean was a helluva straight man... Forty years ago, if the censor thought something was too racy, they would bleep out the offensive words with a cukoo sound or something like that. Anytime Paul sauntered onto Dean's show for a little campy fun, I'm sure the censor was on full guard - and there's plenty of subtext going on in this clip... If you care to know, the censored word is "piece"

Rona Barrett and Sir Clement Freud go at it on Jack Paar Tonite - 8/24/1973

When I read that Sir Clement Freud - British broadcaster and writer and grandson of Sigmund - had died on April 15th, I remembered this priceless dust up on Jack Paar's Tonite program. This was the genius of the original talk show format - you mixed, shook and stirred your personalities together and often got real sparks... and Jack was loving every minute of it!

Zenith Console Color TV Commercial - 1965

"Shaped like a movie screen" - this 400 lb. beauty not only bathed the room in glorious colors, it made the floorboards squeak a little, too... all the better to see that peacock strut its stuff... props to Mr. Dick Tufeld for the gusto color commentary.

George Gobel and Hermoine Baddeley - 1976

Hmm, let's see... an awards show with a room full of drunk actors who have trouble making their way to the stage for all the tables... what else could it be? In honor of this less-than-illustrious broadcast I submit one of my favorite moments from its past... in which Hermoine gives Gobel a lesson in proper presentation etiquette... and check out the nominees! Suzuki Beane - 1962 Television Pilot - Edited

Desilu Studios adapted the popular children's book - a satire of Kay Thompson's "Eloise" series - into a TV pilot, which ultimately did not find a sponsor. This shortened version eventually aired with another recycled pilot and some new material with Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon as part of the "Victor Borge Comedy Theater."
