Turkish language is spoken by over 250 million people in the world. Today Turkish is taught in 115 countries as a second language in many leading high schools and colleges as well as in United States. Moreover, Turkish is supported by Department of Education, Department of State, Department of Defense, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence under a program called NSLI. Houston hosted the third annual Turkish Language Olympiad on February 28 at George R. Brown convention center. Over 2500 students who are taking Turkish lessons at universities, public schools, and branches of Raindrop Turkish House in 14 cities of Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Kansas, Louisiana, and Arkansas participated in the first round of eliminations. In order to encourage Turkish language training, Raindrop has been organizing Turkish Language Olympiads since 2007. Houston hosted 300 finalists from these six states who competed in 7 categories including singing, poetry, talent, picture and figure, folklore, and state exhibition contests. The winners will represent the "Lone Star State" in Turkey among the representatives of 110 countries. Nehan Shujaat from Fort Worth was awarded with 1st place in art contest. 1st place was given to the student group representing Austin. Sheenna Flemins from Lubbock won the first place in the language test for K-5. For language test among the 6-12 graders Joanna Mendoza from El Paso took the 1st prize. The 7 year old phenom was @ it again. This time, he actually qualified and competed in the 2008 DMC US Finals dj competition. The NYC crowd was awesome. They showed him a lot of love and he gave it back to 'em in the form of his evolved skills. I was so proud of him. I think the whole crowd was behind him because of his youth and they seemed like they really wanted to see him kill it like he did that night. He certainly came a long way from the first vid of him when he was 5 years old that everyone's still commenting about... Hopefully, this will be something new and more recent to comment about. Peace

The final night of the 7th International Turkish Language Olympiad ended on a high note, especially for Turkiye, the host country. Students from 115 countries around the world, from Tanzania to the US, from Ghana to Vietnam, struggled to take the top place. The ceremony at the Istanbul Performance and Congress Center was enjoyed by thousands of spectators. The song contest of theTurkish language Olympiads have been classified into 5 groups and three contestants from each group have been qualified as the winner, second runner up and third runner up. 160 students from 17 schools contested in 5 different categories in this years Turkish Language Olympics organized by the Pacifica Institute which is based in California. The students displayed their skills in singing, poetry, folklore, talent and sketch categories; however, some others contested in grammar and essay categories. David Bressler from Sonoran Science Academy was awarded with 1st place in the poetry contest, while Patriceia Sebastian from Magnolia Science Academy in California took second place and Demia Mosthaff and Mary Branigan from Coral Science Academy in Nevada took the third place. In the sketch category, students from the Bay Area Technical School took the gold medal while the students of Sonoran Science Academy Broadway took the silver. The gold medal and a lot of applause went to Brandon Thandi from Sonoran Sunset Arizona displaying his masterful art of the water marbling. He simply painted two tulips next to American and Turkish Flags. Coral Academy of Science Nevada team of folk dancers got the gold medal and the cup.
