Prototype of a wheelchair we developed. The base moves in any direction while the seat remains facing one direction. The seat can also rotate while the base stays fixed, allowing the person operating the wheelchair complete freedom to access any environment more easily.
This platform was created to test the feeling of omnidirectional driving using various control technics. It currently has 3 interface options: An "analog" handle (with accelerometer indside); a "digital" handle (with left, right, forward, backward buttons) and weight sensors, which sense the body mass shift. This is a robot platform I just developed this week. The controller is a atmega640 based board of my own design. This platform uses 6 Futaba S148 servos (3 modified for 360 rotation) in order to move and steer. The robot is omni-directional meaning that the robot can move in any direction while keeping a consistent heading. This video shows the platform making a counterclockwise circle while facing forward. You will notice that the robot stops and positions a single wheel assembly a couple of times. This operation is necessary because the steering servos have a limit of 180 degrees of rotation.

The 'HOT Drive' system can go forwards, sideways and diagonally. Lots of small, motor-controlled wheels are connected in-line to form one large-diameter wheel. By moving the large-diameter wheel, the device moves forwards and backwards, and by moving small-diameter wheels, the wheel moves side-to-side. Combining these movements means the wheel moves diagonally too. This wheel is used in Honda's omni-directional personal mobility device, the UX-3. You can see it in action here: www.youtube.com

Michael Whale struggles to pronounce common names, and asks two girls which one of them is related to the other (so, one of them is related and the other one isn't? how the hell did Whale get his job?) Football commentator Brian Moore turns up in a stupid LB segment, seemingly just to help Bob knock Michael Whale for lying about the programme being live. The guy from the Rubettes desn't help to keep the magic of TV flowing.
