This is a video that I shot in April of 2 different orphanages in Ukraine. My church, Valley Bible Church, (in Pleasanton, CA, USA)is looking in to building an orphanage in Ukraine. The state-run orphanages are in a horrible state, lacking food, clothes, and even beds for many of the children. It was a really humbling and sobering experience.

Orphans of the Genocide (7 minute trailer)
By the end of WWI over 150000 Armenian children were left parentless as a direct result of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Authorities. Near East Relief commissioned by the US Congress catered to over 132000 Armenian orphans alone. Orphans of the Genocide is a short film produced by the Armenoid Team. This short documentary includes a feature interview by Maurice Missak Kelechian, whose findings unveiled the secrets of an orphanage in Antoura near Beirut, Lebanon where 1000 Armenian Genocide Orphans were being turkified. Mr. Keleshian's research prompted an article by award winning journalist Robert Fisk of The Independent magazine. This short documentary also includes testimonials from children of Armenian Genocide orphans. This 18 minute documentary debuted on April 24, 2010 at the commemoration of the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Hollywood Florida. The one hour version of Orphans of the Genocide will include a feature interview by award winning journalist Robert Fisk.

Every orphan dreams of their own family and home. However, many Russians who grew up in orphanages have their dreams shattered when they see the housing which they are entitled to from the state. Dank, dark and dilapidated: a flat which orphan graduate Elena Zatelepina received from the government when she turned 18 looks more like a prime candidate for demolition than a family home. Still, the 22-year-old mother of the two has been told by social services that she is stuck here. "Perhaps they have not seen this place inside," she said. "They keep telling us to repair it somehow and live here." "They showed me a paper on 'how to build a house'. I told them that I had no funds," Elena added. "I have no job, I have to take care of kids and I ended up renting a place. They said 'It is not our problem'." Elena grew up in an orphanage in the city of Tver. Under Russian law she was to receive state housing once she left the institution. The flat proposed to Elena used to belong to her mother, and despite having no money, she has been told to fix it up. The situation is absolutely desperate," Elena said. "They do not give me work because I do not have a profession. For them I do not exist. Perhaps hanging myself would be the best thing to do." Elena's case is not unusual. Those who work with orphanages in Russia say that it is when they leave the care homes that they need most help. www.abroaderview.org Volunteer Cameroon Abroad Buea Orphanage HIV Programs Cameroon is a safe Central African Republic bordered to the west by the Gulf of Guinea. One of the most diverse countries in Africa, Cameroon is often referred to as "Africa in miniature?. Cameroon has everything you would expect from the African continent; tropical rainforests, deserted golden beaches, great expanses of desert, vast lakes and savannah, and volcanic mountains in-between. Compared with other African countries, Cameroon enjoys political and social stability. Nevertheless, large numbers of Cameroonians live in poverty as subsistence farmers. The unemployment rate is high and those who are employed perform mostly agricultural tasks. The HIV/AID crises have hit hard especially the children, many of whom lack proper healthcare. Cameroon has one of the highest school attendance rates in Africa. Although attendance rates are high, there is a shortage of teacher leaving schools chronically understaffed. Cameroon is having two seasons that is the rainy and dry season; the rainy season runs from March to September while the dry season runs from October to February. The major spoken languages are still English and French but a multitude of more than 200 ethnic languages are also in circulation, with various tribes populating the country. Our programs are located in Buea and the surrounding rural towns where English is predominately spoken. The nearest airport from our head office is Douala <b>...</b>
