STOP! IF YOU HAVE FOUND THIS FILM THEN PLEASE WATCH THIS LINK. www.youtube.com READ BELOW TO UNDERSTAND IT'S SIGNIFICANCE. THANKS The man in this video is my Grandad, he was born in Calumet, Michigan in 1920. That's his dock on Sandy Lake, a short drive from the home where he was born. As a child my Grandad would visit his own Grandfather at the very same Lake. It has been throughout his life, a spiritual home. To fully understand the significance to this film you should watch another of mine called Sandy Lake - Memories. It's a film of my visit to my Grandparents cabin and a film that explains how my Grandad was separated from my Mother ( his eldest daughter ) for 49 years. This film, of my Grandad sitting on his dock was the main menu for a DVD that I made for my family as a record of my Grandads incredible story.

Otis Redding - Shake, 1966

Posted by www.nostalgoteket.se From September 16, 1966 and the tv show Ready Steady Go!recorded in London, England. "Shake" is a song written and recorded by Sam Cooke. Otis Redding's version was elected to the "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll " by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. In 1966, the now cult '60s British pop show Ready Steady Goes Live, devoted a whole programme to a live performance of Soul singer Otis Redding, who regularly covered many of Cooke's songs. One of the highlights was a rousing version of "Shake" on which Redding was joined by British Soul legends Eric Burdon, lead singer of The Animals, and chart topper Chris Farlowe. The programme is acclaimed by many as the best episode of the whole series.

Otis died just one day after this performance. The plane that carried him and the Bar-Kays, also featured here as his backing band, crashed into that ice lake in Madison, Wisconsin where they were scheduled to play. A better quality, slightly longer clip than one very popular on YouTube.
Otis Redding - I Got Dreams To Remember

Photos put together using ProShow Gold with music from the fabulous Otis Redding. During the 60's Otis was the king of soul and met an untimely death in 1967 when the plane he was in, crashed. I had the fortunate pleasure of seeing Otis on Stage at the Finsbury Park Astoria in London while Otis was the star of the legendary Hit The Road Stax tour. Great song, his legacy will live for generations to come......

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com One of the most influential soul singers of the 1960s, Otis Redding exemplified to many listeners the power of Southern "deep soul" -- hoarse, gritty vocals, brassy arrangements, and an emotional way with both party tunes and aching ballads. He was also the most consistent exponent of the Stax sound, cutting his records at the Memphis label/studios that did much to update R&B into modern soul. His death at the age of 26 was tragic not just because he seemed on the verge of breaking through to a wide pop audience (which he would indeed do with his posthumous number one single "[Sittin' On] The Dock of the Bay"). It was also unfortunate because, as "Dock of the Bay" demonstrated, he was also at a point of artistic breakthrough in terms of the expression and sophistication of his songwriting and singing. Although Redding at his peak was viewed as a consummate, versatile showman, he began his recording career in the early '60s as a Little Richard-styled shouter. The Georgian was working in the band of guitarist Johnny Jenkins at the time, and in 1962 he took advantage of an opportunity to record the ballad "These Arms of Mine" at a Jenkins session. When it became an R&B hit, Redding's solo career was truly on its way, though the hits didn't really start to fly until 1965 and 1966, when ...
