We all get to witness Auburndale High School start a connection to a boy named Oumar from a camp in Djabal. Oumar has the wish to become a teacher someday. He wants to be able to help his people, he tells us. How can such a young boy understand at such a young age the meaning, and importance of doing work for others? I think Oumar tells us a powerful message as he shares with us his wishes for his future today. Through his desire I was able to see the magnitude of living a life intertwined around the betterment of others. Today is one more day that I get to see a child from Darfur who resembles so many others that I am surrounded by every day in America. He has goals, wants and wishes for his life. As I watched him play he reminded me of my younger brother and I stopped and asked myself an important yet simple question; would I honestly allow my little brother to live in a condition like this, in fear, without school, in a refugee camp? Today is yet another chance to enable the lives of millions if we take the opportunity we are all given.
