How the Body Works : The 4 Parathyroid Glands

The 4 Parathyroid Glands The four parathyroid glands, shown here as black dots adjacent to the thyroid, secrete parathormone or PTH, which is involved in regulating blood calcium levels and, indirectly, in controlling blood phosphate levels. Low blood calcium stimulates output of PTH, which mobilizes calcium from bones and aids in its absorption from the intestines and kidneys to increase the circulating level. When PTH secretion is inhibited, calcium is deposited in the bones and less calcium is reabsorbed from the intestine and kidneys until the blood level returns to normal.

Parathyroid Surgery Treatment - Dr. Babak Larian, Los Angeles

A parathyroid gland is any one of the four small, round glands at the back of the thyroid, which are responsible for the regulation of calcium in the bloodstream. They control the calcium level by affecting a variety of organs including the kidney, intestines, and bones. Despite their close proximity, the thyroid and parathyroid are very different glands with very different purposes and the problems that affect them must be understood and dealt with accordingly.

Minimally Invasive Parathyroid Surgery

Video of a minimally invasive radioguided parathyroid surgery. The technique uses intraoperative nuclear mapping - a method that allows virtually all parathyroid operations to be performed through a one inch incision with the least amount of dissection. The surgeon uses a special probe that determines which parathyroid glands are normal, which are bad and where each of these glands are located in the neck allowing the diseased glands to be removed while preventing the removal of normal glands. Parathyroid tumor treatment in India at excellent hospitals

Parathyroid tumor treatment in India is provided at excellent hospitals in Mumbai and Delhi which are equipped with latest state of the art technology. A parathyroid tumor is a growth inside a parathyroid gland. Parathyroid tumors may cause increased levels of parathyroid hormones secreted by the parathyroid glands, leading to hyperparathyroidism. Indian surgeons have vast experience in treating thousands of patients so Parathyroid tumor treatment in India is the safest option. Surgery is the most common and by far the best treatment for parathyroid cancer. Treatment for parathyroid cancer depends on the size of the tumor, its location, and whether or not it has spread to other tissues. The parathyroid gland (parathyroidectomy) and the half of the thyroid on the same side as the cancer (thyroid lobectomy) are typically removed. This is what is shown in this picture (slightly enlarged). This cancer was almost completely inside the thyroid gland so the thyroid was split in half to expose the parathyroid tumor inside. Many foreign patients are opting for Parathyroid tumor treatment in India because of the absence of waiting list. Indian clinical and paramedical talent is globally appreciated and with JCI accreditation of some hospitals, international standard is proven.
