Filmed during the Dimension 3 expo in Paris May 2011, I show you the world's first hybrid active / passive 3D glasses from Volfoni. Called ActivEyes, they were very impressive, especially when watching an active and passive 3D TV at the same time wearing the same glasses.

This is a small portion of a panel that would be placed over an existing TV (or built in at the manufacturer) so that $.25 passive glasses could be used rather than the $100 active glasses currently used to view 3d content. It is 100% compatible with current technology and could easily be implimented instead of the active 3d currently used. This also allieviates the battery running out and syncing problems with current active glasses. I don't have the resources to make a large scale panel, so I made a small scale one for demonstration. This is the only passive polarization method that allows for absolutely no resolution loss. Current passive polarized TV's use alternating filters causing each eye to get a half resolution image. Not so with my panel.

It took me a year to persuade my wife to let me get this for my birthday so we finally have 3D in the lounge. Here is my unboxing video ... :) Transcript -------------- It's got LG 3D Glasses... It's got LG Coloured 3D Glasses, Party ones... It's got a base, maybe the adaptor to fit on the base. Take the polystyrene off the top and inside there's a remote control and a little booklet and here's the proper stand. I'm expecting a nice black shiny stand in here... Yes, there you go. And let's see if we can get it out the box. 1 - 2 - 3. OK just to recap this an unboxing of an LG 42LW450U, and I've got it out the box now, and that's what it looks like laid on the floor on top of the box. And inside the packet we have: - 2 pairs of normal glasses (LG 3d Glasses AG-F200) and - 5 pairs of the coloured (AG-F215 bundle) and - an owners manual, - CD, - green polishing cloth, - the rempote control - batteries - bolts (screws) - a base mounting unit - and a big shiny base to put that on. OK, so you get about 8 of these screws with it. and it appears that the base goes on top of that like that. We have 4 screws to go into there. and the television screws on to the base plate in these corners ... 1 2 3 4 and into the back of the TV. OK, this is the back of the TV, LG logo, air vents, optical out, a couple of HDMI (ports) on there, the old SCART and component (sockets), antenna in... and on the side we have a third HDMI, PCMCIA and USB in.

I did the below on my LG but any passive 3D TV will be able to do this. * Pop the right lense out on one and left one out on the other. I say pop because you simply need small screwdriver or nail as i used and the inner seal pops right out and just take lense out. (LG party pack) * Setup Tv ready for testing...I used black ops split screen, then choose 3D top / bottom. * swap the lenses over to the other glasses, not turned round or anything **important** to confirm youve got pair matched correctly test on the TV by holding up you'll get a clear 2D picture. Hold up other glasses and lense and youll get a different clear picture. * I just then carefully trimmed the lenses so they'd fit in and they still fill the hole completely. * click the lense holder back around and your done. Now with LG's technology regarding its 3D mode and way it does 4 frames in the 120hz band (this is how it got full 3d HD accreditation) you get 1080i graphics so looks fine and no major loss in detail......its worth it for the private part knowing that the person on the other screen cant see your screen. Please give thumbs up if ive helped or your impressed. Many companies will be selling this on next yrs TV's i expect which will be more refined, but todays tv's can do it.

I unbox the LG D2342 passive 23' 3d display yay! btw spoilers- the zalman glasses DO work indeed they seem to give the exact same results (I found no discernible difference ghosting-wise- at first I thought there was but it's just the head position) - the zalman ones do give a slightly more yellowy/warm tint though I also tried connecting the Fuji to the LG via hdmi- it worked! at first the screen had blue pixels flashing all over the place but I re-plugged it in and everything was fine. Currently I'm using it to watch yt3d clips- very nice the zalman had very visible lines- here they are visible if you are extreemly close to the screen when wearing glasses (much more so than normal use)- the screen just appears more "grayer" from a distance. the small text still not as legible of course

- Please note I received this for reviewing purposes- The LG LM6700 is my second LED 3D TV, but the first using passive 3D glasses. The LM6700 has a lot of things to like in both performance and features, and in many ways it a very thought-out television. Picture Quality - For our basic TV watching we use a Tivo HD, which has a maximum resolution of 1080i. This seems to be ok for our 46" Samsung LED TV, but the larger 55" begins to show some picture degradation. Obviously, this is not the fault of the TV - just an observation. When watching Blu-rays you will notice that the picture quality is considerably better (the blu-rays are in 1080p). Also, the use of the 3D mode seems to help make the TV sharper, and really seems to maximize the capabilities of the unit. Brightness - This probably should fall under picture quality, but the LG LM6700 is not very bright. It is noticeably darker when compared to our Samsung 46UN8000. The claim is that this helps save electricity, but I am not sure if I buy that argument since all LED TVs will be energy efficient. The overall lack of brightness is my biggest overall beef with the LM6700 and is the reason for me taking off 1/2 star. 3D Effect - To repeat a central theme - it is very easy to use. The passive 3D glasses means no batteries and no need to sync them with the TV. It also makes them lighter and easier to wear for extended periods. The 3D performance is nice and controllable, it may be a little less pronounced than the active <b>...</b>

This is the third in our Joe Kane Education series of videos. In my opinion this series has information that is relevant to the largest audience, 3D flat panels. Following on his previous discussions regarding active 3D glasses and passive 3D glasses, Joe discusses why some flat panel manufacturers are trying to come out with a flat panel display technology that will allow for passive glasses. The main reason being is that consumers are not thrilled with some of the side effects of active 3D glasses. Cost Battery life Weight Flicker In this series Joe discusses the two current types of 3D technology on the market, active panel and FPR (Film Pattern Retarder). FPR uses passive glasses, thus removing the issues that many have with active glasses. While you might think this is reason to run out and by a FPR set, Joe goes over why you might want to think twice with the current technology, particularly the loss of resolution. Joe also talks about future technologies that are coming out (Samsung demonstrated RDZ technology late in 2011). At the end Joe talks about calibrating a 3D set. When I calibrated Adam's Panasonic 3D Plasma, I couldn't really calibrate for 3D because there were no patterns. While there currently isn't a disc out, Joe talks about the work he has done with Spectracal/AVFounder in providing 3D images for their AV Foundry VideoForge Digital Video Pattern Generator.
