Here is a time-lapse video of me doing a standard portrait using just a basic pencil through most of it, in a sketch pad. Toward the end, I did pick up a "Design Ebony Jet Black" pencil for some darker accents. There's nothing overly impressive or special about what I'm doing here, but I did this video as a (real-time) starter in a DVD commentary technique series I will hopefully be selling on my website soon. A lot of people want to know how to do the things I do in photoshop, such as Photo-realism, etc. But I believe it starts here... A pencil and paper. At least it did for me. I'm doing a complete website make-over for me site, and will be including a section documenting a "history" of how I started with this stuff, and how the path evolved into digital (for those who are interested). The site should be up this weekend. And for those who are following these vids, and reading this stuff- the t-shirts are done. They came out nice. They will be posted there as well, if you want to get your hands on one. Next vid-- airbrush photo realism... (well, hopefully next vid... I tend to wander off, and do other things... I still have a half-way completed oil of t-rex drying in my furnace room...Let's just say "within the next few vids"! ;-) )
