As a prolific producer of manic combinations of text and pictures, Pettibon has influences a generation of young artists world wide. His personal tales, diaristic notations and over the top political commentary are at once humorous, ironic and pathetic. These rugged and urgent works give witness to a childhood spent delving into the seamier side of West coast life with a special focus on Hollywood sleaze and the dark side of the California Dream.

We, Saccharine Trust were about to record "We Became Snakes." Something was happening during that error of Punk Rock. Something I till this day, though lightly now, remember as the dark shameful error of Punk Rock. There had always been competition between the bands. But in the beginning it seem we were challenging one another for artistic reach. How much intensity could we bring. How much more interesting our dissidence. Our bass to drum to guitar interweaving. And the vocals were human not piano. As the instruments were fatal to theorize. Because music theory is only theory. Perfect pitch is just an even vibration. A means to accept balance as light. To tragic joy, to hear nothing of outside wants and noise. Nothing until doors are kicked down and monks are sent fleeing. And the horror? Us only trying to make a new kind of music. A music we felt. And we weren't alone. There was something in the air. We knew balance was a lie. And Yin and Yang prosthetic. Angst was the truth. For this revelation a new tonal structure was required. One that would press against the heart and pierce it ever so slightly. Just enough to cause it to thump with an erupt understanding that the music before us tiptoed around the Gods so sensitively; serenaded the Gods to a comatose sleep. It was only 1988 and we were already reenacting our punk glory days. The movie was Sir Drone...the original Sir Drone. I and Rich Acostigan played the two main characters Jinx and Dwayne: two young wannabe punkers trying to start a band during 1978, We moved to Hollywood. In this scene, I guess, I was supposed to be searching for Dwayne while the punker exxtra crowd pogo'd around me. The acting is not exceptional. But the performance by Moist n' Meaty is killer! Ed Huerta rules! And Edwin Letcher, the only comedic punk singer we've ever had. Man, do we need him now, more than ever. Though all of the filming was completed, all post production matters were left to the powers that be. And so our movie never saw daylight.And we may never see it under any light. But that's okay because we captured the true and non- temperamental genius gift of Moist n' Meaty! Enjoy.
