Phatty Firmware Update OS v3.1
June 17, 2011—We are proud to announce the release of Phatty OS v.3.1, a major firmware upgrade to the very popular and portable Phatty family of analog synthesizers. The upgrade to the Phatty operating system coincides with an aesthetic upgrade for the Little Phatty Stage 2 Edition, as Moog introduces new black sidepieces. New features in the Phatty OS v3.1 update include the following features that improve power, sound and control: • Volume Velocity Sensitivity: The ability to map note velocity to output volume with fifteen adjustable levels of sensitivity saved per preset. [Tribute Edition hardware does not currently support this feature] • Legato Glide: Automatically engage the pitch glide between legato notes. Non-overlapping notes snap instantly to a new pitch. The user is able to play or sequence dynamic bends and slides mixed with cleanly-articulated notes. • LFO Reset: The ability to reset the LFO cycle at the start of each note. Two LFO trigger modes provide dynamic new modulation possibilities. • Sustain/Hold Mode: A sustain pedal or control voltage plugged into the CV GATE input jack can now be used to send MIDI Sustain on/off, and to polyphonically sustain MIDI notes from the Phatty keyboard. • 14-bit MIDI: All Phatty synths can now send and receive high-resolution 14-bit MIDI messages for critical voltage-controlled parameters. • MIDI Output Filtering: New options control which MIDI CC messages are sent from the Phatty, for maximum compatibility with <b>...</b>

"Gattobus Meditation" Dopefer R2M + Moog Little Phatty
Live improvisation using Doepfer Ribbon Controller R2M connected CV to the Moog Little Phatty. Position on the ribbon determine pitch and pressure sensitivity controls the filter cutoff. I used the Modular G2 filters to create a rithmyc drone and the Elektron Machinedrum for drums. The Roland Alpha Juno2 is connected midi to the Access Virus TI desktop. Added some reverb and delay using 2 stomp pedals Digitech Hardwire DL-8 and RV-7 and Korg AM8000R. That's all. Played one shot.

Octatrack + Prophet 08 + Little Phatty = Sunday jam
The ocatrack is just used as a midi sequencer in this video (in addition to providing the drums). I didn't utilise any of its sampling capabilities in this video. Some post work was done in ableton live (namely filter + large reverb automation to keep things interesting). The synths were tweaked in real time (which is what I'm doing when you don't see my hands in the video). Sick with a cold, Miette keeps me company while I take a 1st test drive of this portable little setup. I'm using my newly created iOS Midi Touch controller for the Moog Slim Phatty. I'm controlling the MSP arpeggiator and using it's DIN MIDI output to play the drums on my circuit-bent Yamaha QY10. Also sloppily playing the tiny keyboard on the QY10. The audio from the QY10 is partially routed back to the Moog for processing. My bent megaphone toy circuit (red box) offers some echo on the unprocessed drums. The crappy Boss mixer & homemade stereo amp combo make the cats ears twitch. Fun. Animoog Taurus Bass, compared to Moog Little Phatty and Arturia Minimoog V
Animoog Taurus bass impression, compared with "Taurus" presets from the Moog Little Phatty, and Arturia Minimoog V. $1 vs. $1300 vs. $200. First thing I worked on with the Moog Animoog iPad app, was programming a passable Taurus-type bass sound(two saws, octave apart, detuned slightly). There is mojo coming from both the Little Phatty and Arturia Minimoog that I couldn't capture, but I feel like this'll do a pretty good job in a pinch. To program the sound, this is what I found: 1. Build off of a static saw Timbre. "StaticFatSaw1" is good. Putting a "Sine" wave, or "OctaveSaw" in the Timbre slot next to it gives some good variation moving around on the X/Y pad. 2. The key for me to getting the vibe in the right ballpark was forcing the synth to output a mono audio signal, and using the "Detune" control to separate the saw into two separate octaves. This can be accomplished in two ways I've found: -(preferable) "Unison" set to "4", "Detune" set to approximately "8", and ONLY use the Left audio output from the iPad(I used the "tip" side only of a stereo 1/8" TRS to dual mono 1/4" TS cable, coming out of the headphone jack) - "Unison" set to "2", and "Detune" very slightly under "10". This'll sound alright coming out of the iPad speaker, but is less flexible, and would be difficult to perform with. 3. all Orbit, Path, Delay settings to "0" 4. approx. fiter settings: Drive "10", Env. "0", Freq "5.3", Res. "1" - maxing out the filter "Drive" seemed to be a key to getting the <b>...</b>

Octatrack + Prophet 08 + Little Phatty + Voyager OS = Sunday Sample
The octatrack is sequencing all synths via MIDI (with the help of MP-201 for the voyager OS). The outputs of the little phatty and voyager are fed into the octatrack where they get sampled in real time and have up to 4 effects applied via neighbour machine. The output of the prophet 08 is going direct (dry). The drums are from the octatrack. Light compression + reverb from ableton live. Moog Slim Phatty Song - Moogolar System
I've made the following video with the intention of testing out and demonstrating the smoother, more thoughtful side of my new Moog Slim Phatty (but not without some durt! Look out for the noise and the very wet sounding S&H at the 1:40 mark). All loops are first takes, just cycling through some preset patches and building a simple song together. There is no additional processing. Please note that the Slim Phatty sounds exactly the same as the Little Phatty. I own both and picked up the Slim Phatty for rackmounting in my live rig. I'm not sure how I feel about the cosmetic differences; the Slim Phatty does feel quite a bit cheaper...but, then again, it is cheaper!
