There are several lighting positions that photographers have developed over the years. People like George Hurrell, who used tungsten to shoot stars, used these lighting positions. Learn to identify what a butterfly or Rembrandt light is. Knowing these positions, and where the light placed to create them, will help you see how photographers light their images. These are departure points from which you will create your own look and direction. Its hard to depart from someplace you have never been there. This will teach you the basics and give you a good foundation to build on. This video is not as slick as some of the others we have done but it has great basic instructions on portrait lighting. When choosing photography lights, the most important question for your strategy is where you're going to shoot. The lights that work best for an indoor shoot are completely different from what you would use outside. That's because outside, you're either fighting the sun or ambient light. In search for one of the most simplest, easy, quick and cost effective way to light up my videos! You may have heard of key light, fill light, back light etc but all that is just a pain to me so I wanted to find an alternative solution. Tripods (Umbrellas? lol) are annoying and having them for lights was out of the question. Keeping things simple I searched around and found myself a MASSIVE energy saving light bulb. My house is old so it uses BC (B22) connector. The awesome guys at green-lamp in the UK had 125W CFL 5500k (Pure White) daylight globes which were perfect. These things are big, check out the video and see for yourself!
