The Cameraman was Keaton's first film with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is considered by fans and critics to be Keaton still in top form, and it was added to the National Film Registry in 2005 as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Within a little over a year, however, MGM would remove creative control over his pictures from Keaton, thereby causing drastic and long-lasting harm to his career. Keaton was later to call the move to MGM "the worst mistake of my career."

www.youtube.com Buster Keaton in "Battling Butler". The great Buster Keaton. The greatest physical comedian in cinema history. Buster Keaton Performing Stunts. Battling Butler is a 1926 comedy silent film directed by and starring Buster Keaton. Alfred's father, portrayed as a wealthy aristocrat, feels his son has grown up too comfortably and as a result has not become what a man should be. To remedy this predicament he sends his son Alfred off on a hunting trip. On the trip, in the midst of many follies brought on by his inexperience with the outdoors, he meets a young mountain girl. After some initial friction he decides he has fallen in love with her. Alfred's butler, who has accompanied him on the outing, is sent to arrange the marriage with the girl's father, who thinks Alfred is too weak to become a member of the family. In an attempt to change the father's mind, the butler tells the girl's father and brother that Alfred is actually Alfred "Battling" Butler, promoted in the morning newspaper as a professional boxer. The deceptive explanation works, and the father and brother of the mountain girl proudly arrange a wedding. Comic mischief ensues as Alfred and his butler attempt to make their newly fabricated story seem plausible to the family of his new bride.

Buffering Suffering

I thought I'd try my hand at a little physical comedy. Personally, I think it came out abysmally... but it's probably the funnier for it. All the sound effects I did vocally, which is why the entire video sounds like the death throes of a noisy armadillo. If nothing else, you ought to enjoy the last few seconds.

Reds: John (Warren Beatty) makes Louise (Diane Keaton) a birthday dinner.

Despite its subject matter, Reds had its human and funny side, too. In this scene from Warren Beatty's 1981 tour de force as (co-)writer, director, actor and producer, John (Beatty) attempts to make Louise (Keaton) a special dinner for her birthday. Beatty's excellent physical comedy skills are showcased in this wonderful little scene. Even for those not interested in (socialist) politics, Reds is a lesson in great film making. Innovative, as Beatty was the first to use the "talking heads" of the so called witnesses to tie the scenes together. Engaging, for by weaving the romance between John Reed (Beatty) and Louise Bryant (Diane Keaton) through the political and analytical scenes, Beatty manages to never let the movie become dull or too serious, despite the subject matter. Some of the impressive cast play the roles of their lifetime. Keaton has never been better, Nicholson is brooding, Stapleton deservedly won an Oscar for her role as Emma Goldman. A must see, if only for the beautiful cinematography by Vittorio Storaro and the best acting many of the actors involved. View better version of this clip here: www.youtube.com
