In the nighttime hours preceding the incident, the TMI-2 reactor was running at 97% of full power, while the companion TMI-1 reactor was shut down for refueling. The chain of events leading to the partial core meltdown began at 4 am EST on March 28, 1979, in TMI-2's secondary loop, one of the three main water/steam loops in a pressurized water reactor. Workers were cleaning a blockage in one of the eight condensate polishers (sophisticated filters cleaning the secondary loop water), when, for reasons still unknown, the pumps feeding the polishers stopped. When a bypass valve did not open, water stopped flowing to the secondary's main feedwater pumps, which also shut down. With the steam generators no longer receiving water, they stopped and the reactor performed an emergency shutdown (SCRAM). Within eight seconds, control rods were inserted into the core to halt the nuclear chain reaction but the reactor continued to generate decay heat and, because steam was no longer being used by the turbine, heat was no longer being removed from the reactor's primary water loop. Once the secondary feedwater pumps stopped, three auxiliary pumps activated automatically. However, because the valves had been closed for routine maintenance, the system was unable to pump any water. The closure of these valves was a violation of a key NRC rule, according to which the reactor must be shut down if all auxiliary feed pumps are closed for maintenance. Back by popular demand, HOW TO LIGHT YOUR PILOT!!!! (Furnace/Boiler/Water/Space Heater) If you turn up the thermostat and the furnace doesn't come on, You May need to light your Pilot! Follow these simple steps to relight your own furnace and save money. If your not comfortable doing it yourself, or have a newer type furnace, you may want to just call your local heating professional. Also, make sure to change or remove your filter!!! It's better to run the furnace without one than if it was dirty. Here it is Step by Step: 1. Make sure all of the gas valves are ON 2. Turn the main gas valve to PILOT 3. Hold down the big RED button and listen closely for GAS. 4. Light the Pilot at the end of the tube. (Pilot assembly) 5. Hold the Button down for 1-2 minutes. 6. Release and be sure it stays lit. 7. Turn the Main gas valve to ON (Be cautious if power is on) 8. Turn on the power and raise the thermostat. If the furnace does not ignite, call a PROFESSIONAL!!!! Also if you can't get the pilot to stay lit. This maybe a bad Thermocouple or Main Gas valve. The heat transfer creates a small amount of electricity to operate a 'magneto' type coil inside the valve allowing it to stay open. Lastly, be on the lookout for bright yellow flames or 'Roll Out' when the fan comes on. The heat exchanger may possibly be cracked and a VERY DANGEROUS condition. Taken from Helifreak.com. Video and commentary by the godfather of rc helis, Finless Bob :) Tim Jones has built a Trex 700 electric conversion based around a prototype Castle Creations motor. The initial word was that the motor was putting out around 7 horsepowers. How ever the last thing I heard about this insane motor (supposedly after some data logging was performed) it was putting out about 10 horsepowers(!). That's over 7000 watts of power output in a machine that weighs just over 5 kilos! Compare that to the stock nitro engine which produces about 3.4 hp (total fly weight here is somewhat lower though). As an interesting side note (although a somewhat inappropriate comparison) one of the most powerful full scale helis in the world, the American millitary attack helicopter AH-64D Apache Longbow (ie the most powerful version) has a power to weight ratio of 0.773 horsepowers per kilo. Even in the wold of rc 3D helis that's powerful. That's how ever without any weapons, fuel or pilot. In the same way the full scale Bell222 (the Airwolf helicopter) has a ratio of 0.598 hp per kilo. Loaded and ready for combat the Apache has a power to weight ratio of 0.499 hp per kilo. Still very powerful. How ever, assuming this Trex700E conversion heli weighs about the same as other electric conversions "The Beast" should be approaching 2 whole horsepowers per kilo! And that's with the heavy batteries installed. A Trex 700 is about the length of a 3 seated sofa or couch. It's very big <b>...</b>

Hanna Reitsch, Nazi Germany's celebrated woman test pilot who had flown the VI rocket bomb in sub orbital flight in the early 1940's -- 20 years before the first American spaceman -- was actually history's first astronaut. Hanna started with gliders. Her passion for the air soon overtook her interest in medicine, and she left medical school to become a full-time glider pilot (Germany had been forbidden to build "war planes" after WWI, which meant that most of the planes constructed in Germany were built without engines). She went on to become an instructor in gliding at the Horngerb in Swabia and also worked as a stunt pilot in films, but she really distinguished herself in competition. She soon became Nazi Germany's ideal woman, young and vivacious, daring and highly publicized by the Nazi propaganda machine. If she hadn't been on the losing side and if she had been later willing to admit the horrors of the Nazi regime, Hanna Reitsch would be honoured in history books as the greatest woman pilot.
