Pinoy Zebra Fin

Zebra Fin refers to the multiple striations on the dorsal fin. In angelfish, there is variation in fin patterns and at the moment there is no classification of the different fin patterns. Fin patterns seem to be independent for each fin ( dorsal, caudal and anal ) and also independent, partly, of body patterns. An alternate classification based on fin patterns may need to be established. In this Pinoy angelfish, the pattern on the anterior part of the dorsal fin is spotted while the posterior part is striated. Anal fin pattern is spotted. The name Zebra fin is just a temporary name until classification of fin patterns is established. In this video, there is also a Platinum angelfish. Compare its dorsal fin pattern with...
Blue Iridescence due to a single locus gene mutation

Showing the coverage of the blue green iridescence due to the recessive Philippine blue pb/pb gene. The angel in the video appears brighter in coloration than the actual... Lighting is indirect natural light. Video taken 7:45 am (sunrise: 5:30 am). D/g is the allele combination that results in a basic black body coloration. The other alelle combination is D/+ which results in a light to dark grey body coloration. Ghost refers to the loss of body stripes due to the heterozygous Stripeless gene S/+

Albino Pinoy Ghost Pearl

The color of the angel in this video is "bleached" and appears to be white; but at the end of this video, the angel swims downward changing the viewing angle and this reveals its yellowish color...
Paraiba Smokey Threadfin

Although almost not visible in the video, this angelfish has extended dorsal fin rays, Watching "closely" the extended dorsal fin rays could still be seen; although very faint.
Pinoy Paraiba (Slide)

Indirect natural lighting. Metallic/iridescent color varies from deep blue to light blue green. The color on the fins is darker than on the back and/or crown.

New pinoy angelfish arrival to 55.

Not exactly a friendly welcome to the new arrival. Lights were turned off after the video was shot in hopes that things will settle down in the morning.
Pterophyllum scalare Pinoy Ghost Angelfish

The Pinoy angelfish phenotype or variety results from the combination of the dark/black and blue traits/mutations. The dark/black trait is dominant while the blue trait is recessive. The blue trait expresses basically on the crown, back and unpaired fins. The lower two thirds of the body basically has very minimal or no blue expression. This blue "color"is a domestic mutation which is different from the blue colors expressed in wild angelfish. The domestic blue and wild blue colors can combine and produce bluer angelfish. Although the Pinoy angelfish is the combination of the dark/black and blue traits, there will be variations in overall color due to the pressence of other colors, yellow, orange and red... The Ghost phenotype refers to the complete/incomplete loss of body stripes due the heterozygous stripeless/blushing mutation.
White Phoenix hen with light blue earlobes

This is one of three (2 white & 1 silver duckwing) Phoenix hens with light blue earlobes being used in developing a breed of chicken, the Philippine Long Tail Fowl- Sarimanok, having large rounded blue earlobes. Her white sibling, shown in the other video, has blue just above behind the eyes in addition to the blue earlobes.
Iridescent Structural Colour in Angelfish

A recessive gene mutation, named Philippine blue combined with the Dark gene is responsible for the blue iridescence observed in this angelfish. Iridescence on this Pinoy angelfish is somewhat similar to the iridescence of the Morpho Butterfly. pause the video at 8 seconds. the blue iridescence on the back is visible only at a certain angle. by crossing to wilds with blue iridescence on the body, can platinums with blue iridescence on the body be produced?
Pinoy Ghost D/+ & Paraiba Angelfish Pair

There are two basic color types/shades of Pinoy angelfish depending on the allele combination on the Dark locus. Featured in this video is the Pinoy Ghost D/+ which has a light to dark gray body color. The Pinoy Ghost D/D or Pinoy Ghost D/g on the other hand has a black body color. Both color types of Pinoy Ghost have blue green iridescence on the face, crown/back anf fins which may vary from one individual to another. The term Ghost refers to the absence/loss of the two body stripes due the heterozygous Stripeless gene S/+. Sometimes though the two body stripes are not completely lost, a remnant spot or two may remain.
Pinoy Smokey Pearl WiFi Lineback (D/g allele combo)

In horses, the dorsal stripe is also called lineback. This angel is the same Pinoy Smokey Pearl WiFi with Dorsal Stripe in the other video. Color in this video is closer to actual but slightly enhanced by the camera.
Pinoy Ghost Skalar Escalari Scalaire

Angelfish variety developed in the Philippines. Pinoy is a "nickname" for Filipino. As a color variant, Pinoy is the combination of the black/dark color gene and the Philippine blue gene. www.angelfishkisses.com
Wide Fin Pinoy Smokey Pearl

This angelfish has a very short but wide dorsal fin, The anal fin is longer than the dorsal fin.
Pterophyllum scalare Pinoy (D+ pbpb) Zebra (Z+) Angelfish

The Pinoy phenotype is the combination of the dark/black and blue traits. The Dark gene could be the not so dark D/+ or the darker/blacker D/g or D/D.
Silver "Wild" Type and Blue Angelfish Coloration Pterophyllum scalare

This video shows the difference in coloration between a silver "wild type" and three angels with the recessive gene mutation coding for iridescence, Philippine blue pb/pb gene, the light blue ones...The varieties of blue angels in this video include a blue Smokey Zebra, a blue Smokey Zebra Pearl/Diamond and a blue Zebra Pearl/Diamond. These three are Original Philippine Varieties, to the best of my knowledge.

F2 Pterophyllum Altum & Sta Isabel Cross Angelfish Pair

Update July 08, 2011. The female Sta Isabel Cross spawned yesterday but the Altum did not do anything. At 13-14 months, it is likely too young... Will keep them together and wait and see. Origiinal post: From their behavior, it appears that the two angels have bonded and paired. The female Sta Isabel cross is one year old. The tank bred Altum is approximately 13-14 months old. It is a little stunted. . Waiting for them to spawn, hopefully soon. The Altum belongs to David Labell of Angelfish USA. Last Jan 2011, 19 pcs juvenile F2 Altums from Taiwan were supposed to be shipped to David but about half died during quarantine and the shipment was cancelled...
platinum zebra pearl/diamond veil angelfish

The Platinum angelfish was most probably developed in Thailand. If anyone knows who the originator is, please let me know. Thanks. By the way, the genotype of the Platinum angel is (g/g - pb/pb); a two loci gene mutation. pb stands for platinumblue a recently identified recessive angelfish mutation which was first, to the best of my knowledge, presented at, reply # 59 of www.angelfish.net The Platinum Zebra Pearl Veil is a new "modified/improved" platinum angelfish. Its genotype is (g/g - Z/+ - pb/pb - p/p - V/+). The Platinum Zebra Pearl/Diamond Veil is an Original Philippine variety, to the best of my knowledge.
