Traditional Chinese Music (Pipa): 陽春白雪- White Snow in the Spring Sunlight

The popular Pipa solo piece 陽春白雪(White Snow in the Spring Sunlight can be dated back to the early Ming dynasty (14th century ad). The cheerful, vibrant composition portrays a vivid scene in early spring, when the first green and flowers appear after a long cold winter. The snow covers and protects the plants and raises hopes for rich harvests in the coming year. About the artist: Zhang Jingyu, born in Beijing, began playing the pipa at the young age of four. Due to her extraordinary talent, she received lessons from three of Chinas most renowned pipa masters: Li Guanghua, Zhang Qiang and Wu Yuxia. Through her parallel studies of pipa and voice, she developed her gifts as a versatile and virtuosic interpreter of Chinese music. In June of 2000, Mrs. Zhang gave her first solo pipa and vocal concert in Beijing. Since arriving in Germany, she has enchanted over 100 audiences in numerous cities: Berlin, Strasbourg, Munich, Hamburg and Leipzig, just to name a few. She has given solo concerts for the German Chancellor, the Vice-President of China, the German Ambassador to China and other prominent guests. Her listeners enjoy her virtuosic performance on the pipa and are fascinated by the sounds of traditional Chinese music. Chinese folk music:Dance of the Yi people 彝族舞曲, Liu Fang pipa solo 劉芳琵琶

Very beautiful and elegant interpretation of the romantic "Dance of Yi People" -with the purest sound and emotion from Liu Fang's pipa playing. (Pipa is a traditional string instrument from China, in the same family as lute or guitar. ) It is upon listening to this piece (彝族舞曲) that I have become big fan of Liu Fang's. The original music was composed by Wang Huiran (王惠然)in the early 60s based on some folk dance music of the Yi, one of the 26 minorities in the Province of Yunnan. The melody was used by an Chinese pop group so that it became known to many people (including myself) as a pop song called "Nine hundred ninty nine roses". Later on I discovered that it is a pipa solo music. This piece is one of the most celebrated examples for compositions based on folk melodies, and indeed has become one of the most popular pieces of the pipa repertoire, even among the traditional repertoires, and is commonly regarded as one of the best classical pipa solo compositions ever created in the last century. I love Liu Fang's interpretation. At the moment I cannot find a video of her playing, just MP3 sample in www.philmultic.com and many pictures in her website: www.liufangmusic.net I just put then together and hope you like it. Yang Jing Pipa Demonstration

"Yang Jing's music combines a deep cultural background and an extreme power of un-derstanding music with a virtuoso technique. Bursting with creativity she celebrates the coming of a new era in music." (Music Weekly). Miss Yang found her distinctive musical character through studies of the ancient pieces of an ancient culture and the most contem-porary music of the world. Rooted in the millennium-old tradition of Chinese music, she builds on a vast amalgam of musical history from the East and West. The consequences of this are sometimes musical poetry, sometimes powerful unheard-of sounds. Her concerts in various forms, solo, concerto, chamber or improvisation concerts can be heard in the major music halls around the globe. More information see www.yangjingmusic.com

十面埋伏Chinese traditional music, pipa 琵琶

The pipa (Chinese: 琵琶; pinyin: pípá) is a plucked Chinese string instrument. Sometimes called the Chinese lute, the instrument has a pear-shaped wooden body. It has been played for nearly two thousand years of history in China, and belongs to the plucked category of instruments (弹拨乐器/彈撥樂器). Several related instruments in East and Southeast Asia are derived from the pipa; these include the Japanesebiwa, the Vietnameseđàn tỳ bà, and the Koreanbipa. Prototypes of the pipa already existed in China in the Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC). At that time, there were two types of pipa. One was straight-necked, with a round sound box, and two faces mounted with leather. The other was believed to be inspired by the primitive forms of zheng, konghou, and zou. It also has a straight neck, a round sound box, and also four strings, along with twelve standards of notes. This model was later developed into the instrument known today as the ruan. The modern pipa is closer to the instrument which originated in Persia/Middle-East (where it was called barbat) and was introduced into China beginning in the late Jin Dynasty (265-420 AD). By the Tang era, the pipa had become popular in the imperial court. It had a crooked neck, 4 or 5 silk strings, and 5 or 6 frets, and was played with a plectrum in a horizontal position. As the ages went by, the crooked neck was replaced by a straight one, the number of frets increased to between 14 or 16, and to 17, 24, 29, or 30 in the 20th century <b>...</b>

Wyden Call To Arms -- Ask Him To Read Your Name During Filibuster Of SOPA/PIPA Censorship Bills

StopCensorship.org -- Sign up to have your name read during Wyden's filibuster! The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) would ruin so much of what's best about the Internet They will give the government and corporations new powers to block Americans' access to sites that are accused of copyright infringement, force sites like YouTube to go to new lengths to police users' contributions, and put people in prison for streaming certain content online. There's a good chance this legislation will pass -- but Senator Ron Wyden is a steadfast opponent, and he says he'll try to block it by filibustering if it comes up for a vote. Sometimes filibusters last hours -- or days -- leaving Senators reading out of the dictionary or cookbooks to pass the time. But we've got a better idea: Millions of Americans support Internet freedom. What better way to demonstrate our strength than to ask Senator Wyden to read our names into the record during his filibuster? He's agreed to read as many names as possible, and to enter the rest into the Congressional Record.

Hey, it's Lisa again! this is a song called I am me. I hope you like it. About my instrument: this instrument was created thousands of years ago in china. not many people play it. I took lessons when I went to china for vacation. It's similar to a guitar but only has 4 strings and you hold it upright. You need to wear fake nails for the instrument which is why my nails are white. Hope you enjoy this video! Don't forget to comment, rate, like, or subscribe. Love you lots! XOXOXO Lisa
