The original Punch-Out. Probably the best so-called boxing game ever made. I say that because it's not really boxing, it's more reflexes and puzzle solving than anything resembling boxing. But the opponents are fun and cartoonish and the game gave a lot of people a lot of frustration back in the day. And a lot of satisfaction. I mean, sure, everyone knows the secret to beating King Hippo or Bald Bull nowadays, but trust me, actually doing it for the first time feels good. So I did a little searching, entered a couple of sneaky codes, and got my Animal Crossing doppelganger his very own copy of Punch-Out! And now I'm playing it.This isn't the Tyson version, but that hardly matters - except for a reskin of the last guy, the game is exactly the same. The Minor Circuit is laughably easy. Glass Joe is famous for his ineptitude. Von Kaiser, once you learn his secret, is probably even easier to beat. And the champ, Piston Honda (SCREW "Hondo"), looks intimidating but his defense is as paper thin as the others. So, let's fight! Commentary in annotations.

He is voiced by Japanese anime voice actor seiyuu Kenji Takahashi for this edition of Punch-Out!!! (there is an error in his Japanese when he mentions Mt. Fuji as "Fujiyama" as it is really called "Fujisan"). Piston Honda is ranked #5 in the World Circuit. He's the same guy from Tokyo, Japan at age 28 and weighs 174 pounds. In this rematch with this popular asian guy, he has a little more moves than before. Once his eyes rattle, he will throw a quick jab. He will also do some ducking uppercuts. Ducking and faking in different directions, give it a good timing to avoid the next uppercut. If Piston Honda backs up, he will come foward and do multiple quick jabs at once so be ready to do a belly punch once he comes close before his attack. Officially remastered in true HD (1080p). Little Mac fights Piston Honda again, this time on the World Circuit in Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! on the NES! Piston Honda starts off by throwing a few right jabs and a left uppercut. After he throws the uppercut, quickly give him an uppercut. When Piston Honda jumps back and comes toward you, punch him in the stomach. If timed just right he will be KO'ed.

Piston Honda is one of these characters that will either make or break you because he has a knack for mixing things up. In 1:00 exact, Piston Honda will perform his signature Banzai attack. If you time your jab or body blow right, you can knock him down. Here's a strategy I used to take him down. It's not perfect but if you need more info, check out KingdomCarts' vids and you'll find why. Phase 1 - Hold Up before the fight begins so you can get ready for this. Immediately afterwards, let go and quickly perform three Gutters for 3 Stars. Quickly, give him an Uppercut and then afterwards throw a right jab to get a Star. What happens next depends on what Honda does. This video shows the easiest way so as soon as he throws a hook, jab and then throw an uppercut then another. He'll either throw another hook or an uppercut so whatever you do, dodge it then throw three jabs followed with an uppercut. Phase 2 - He'll get up on one and you'll have no stars. Do the same gutter pattern but just throw one gutter and then afterwards give him an uppercut. Phase 3 - Do the gutter pattern to throw three gutters and afterwards, throw two uppercuts. Wait till he throws a punch, dodge it quick and then throw an unstunned uppercut. If you can pull that off, you'll kick his japanese ass before 1:00. If not, when he gets ready for his banzai attack, throw a jab, body blow or uppercut and you'll take him down. Like I said, if you don't seem to understand it, check out KingdomCarts' videos.
