Place de la Concorde

Place de la Concorde. Between the Champs Elysées and the Tuileries Gardens, there lies the Place de la Concorde. With traffic roaring and careening about seemingly in all directions, it is easy to feel lost in its 84000 square meters. Built between 1755 and 1775, many important historical events took place here. Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and 1119 other people lost their lives here, among them Charlotte Corday (the murderess of Marat), Danton, Philippe Égalité and Robespierre. In the center of the square is the Obelisk of Luxor, a pink granite monolith 23 m (73 tt) high and weighing 220 tons. It is 3300 years old and decorated with hieroglyphics exalting the reign of the pharaon Ramses II. The obelisk was presented as a gift to Charles X by the Egyptian viceroy Méhémet Ali in 1829. The monument was installed here under Louis Philippe who, bearing in mind the death and destruction witnessed by Place de la Concorde, was pleased to have found a non-political monument to replace the unpopular Bourbon Louis the XVth statue. It took three years of travelling from the Nile riverbanks to get the Obelisk to Paris.

Paris - Place de la Concorde

Paris - Place de la Concorde. May, 2009. You can also see the Obelisk, the Hittorf's fountain, the Champs Elysees with the Arc de Triomphe at its end, and the Eiffel Tower. A guillotine was installed at the center of the Place de la Concorde. The first notable to be executed there was King Louis XVI, on January 21, 1793. Other important people guillotined there, often in front of cheering crowds, were Queen Marie Antoinette, Madame Elisabeth, Charlotte Corday, Madame du Barry, Danton, Desmoulins, Lavoisier, Robespierre, Louis de Saint-Just, and Olympe de Gouge.

Steel Pulse - Live in Paris - 15.06.1985 - Concert SOS Racisme - Place de la Concorde - France.avi

This is a Live Video of Steel Pulse of about 15 minutes which has been taken from a French TV Broadcast (from TF1). It sa big free show in a very big place in Paris (Place de la Concorde) of the Fifteenth of June 1985 which is the celebration of the first anniversary of the creation of a national antiracism association called SOS Racisme. There are some hundreads thousand people in the audience! ... but Steel Pulse was not the only band during that night as you can imagine! The 3 songs played by Steel Pulse in this video are Soldier, Blues Dance Raid and Roller Skate (which is cut at the end). I would say that the video is B quality and the audio is A quality.
