Stresses on Global Phytoplankton

Researchers have conducted the first global analysis of the health and productivity of ocean plants using a unique signal detected by NASA's Aqua satellite. Ocean scientists can now remotely measure the amount of fluorescent red light emitted by phytoplankton and assess how efficiently these microscopic plants turn sunlight and nutrients into food through photosynthesis. Researchers also can study how changes in the global environment alter these processes at the center of the ocean food web. Single-celled phytoplankton fuel nearly all ocean ecosystems, serving as the most basic food source for marine animals. Phytoplankton account for half of all photosynthetic activity on Earth and play a key role in the balance of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The health of these marine plants affects the amount of carbon dioxide the ocean can absorb from the atmosphere and how the ocean responds to a changing climate. "This is the first direct measurement of the health of the phytoplankton in the ocean," said Michael Behrenfeld, a biologist who specializes in marine plants at Oregon State University. "We have an important new tool for observing changes in phytoplankton every week, all over the planet." All plants absorb energy from the sun, typically more than they can consume through photosynthesis. A small fraction of this extra energy is re-emitted as fluorescent light in red wavelengths. Using the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aqua satellite ...
Plankton invasion, the web series. First concept Trailer

Produced by Tinkertree Created and directed by Joeri Christiaen (www.thuristar.com) Music composed by Frederik Segers Sound mixed by Temple of tune In 2007, Joeri Christiaen came up with the concept of PLANKTON INVASION, and single-handed created six "webisodes", posted on the website planktoninvasion.com. The series takes the serious subject of Climate Change through a different angle : Three plankton specimen - two soldiers and a scientist - are sent ashore to start operation "Global warming". There are billions of them and they need more space, meaning more water. They are fighting for their species' supremacy, by all means possible -- minuscule means that is -- to fuel Global Warming, drown all land... and rule the world. The concept of PLANKTON INVASION is now being adapted into a TV series produced by TeamTO TeamTO.com, Tinkertree Tinkertree.com and Vivi Film vivifilm.com, in coproduction with Canal+, with the participation of the CNC and the VAF. This is the shortened video version. Four year old Rachel actually went on about 25 minutes discussing the lives of the Spongebob gang like Mr Krabs, Gary, Plankton, Patrick and Squidward. My favorite part is when she reveals the great secret that Plankton is just fluff and that Spongebob is just a costume character. Some think she is a little Phoebe Buffay. Oogie Boogie Plankton-Nightmare Before Christmas/ Spongebob

The Oogie Boogie Man's song is mashed up with a lot of villains but strangely I have never seen a Plankton version so I decided to make one myself. I thought Plankton and the Boogie Man's voice sounded simular ;) Originally I wanted Mr. Krabs to be Santa Claus but I couldn't find the footagesI wanted (especially the movie) so I decided to give Spongebob the role Still, I enjoyed making this and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! comments are always welcome all hail Plankton!!

Marine Phytoplankton Benefits Part 1

www.superfoodhealthyliving.com "Scientists have for a long time been on the quest for finding the best food supplement that can really benefit mankind and serve as the best nutritional meal. It was quite an impossible task until the discovery of the Marine Phytoplankton which is found abundantly in the ocean and is known to be the main source of food for all sea creatures that is from the smallest fish in the ocean to the largest blue whale. Marin Phytoplankton is also known as the main source of the earth's oxygen and provides you with 400 time's more energy then any plant found in the world. The benefits of this miracle food were discovered by a Canadian lung cancer patient who got cured by taking the miracle plankton. These planktons are known to provide longevity and power of endurance in any physical or mental tasks that you do throughout your life. Scientists have carried out experiments and found phytoplankton to be the super food that has all the essential elements required for healthy living. Consider for instance, research concludes that the plankton is known to have no residue at all. Every mineral or content that constitutes to its structure is absorbed by different parts of the body, meaning 100% nutritional acceptance. Marine Ocean Alive's Phytoplankton Elements of Life & Sunfood

www.superfoodliving.com obtain energy through a process called photosynthesis and must therefore live in the well-lit surface layer (termed the euphotic zone) of an ocean, sea, lake, or other body of water. Through photosynthesis, phytoplankton are responsible for much of the oxygen present in the Earth's atmosphere half of the total amount produced by all plant life.[2] Their cumulative energy fixation in carbon compounds (primary production) is the basis for the vast majority of oceanic and also many freshwater food webs (chemosynthesis is a notable exception). As a side note, one of the more remarkable food chains in the ocean remarkable because of the small number of links is that of phytoplankton fed on by krill (a type of shrimp) fed on by baleen whales. Phytoplankton are also crucially dependent on minerals. These are primarily macronutrients such as nitrate, phosphate or silicic acid, whose availability is governed by the balance between the so-called biological pump and upwelling of deep, nutrient-rich waters. However, across large regions of the World Ocean such as the Southern Ocean, phytoplankton are also limited by the lack of the micronutrient iron. This has led to some scientists advocating iron fertilization as a means to counteract the accumulation of human-produced carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere[3]. While almost all phytoplankton species are obligate photoautotrophs, there are some that are mixotrophic and other, non-pigmented species that are ...

Feeding Plankton and Zooplanton to Tilapia and Crawfish. Home grown fish food

www.algosolar.com Here's our daily feeding ritual. Algae and zooplankton are harvested from the algae beds. The balanced, organic, live meal is poured into the fish tank and both tilapia fish and crayfish begin their feeding frenzy. The waste from the fish contains a lot of ammonia which converts in the plant beds above to aquaponically feed the plants. But also the algae is rich in nutrients and when the water enters the bed it acts like a river delta, fertilizing the soil with nitrogen rich nutrients, plus ammonia. In the rock beds are redworms that break down any areas that get too condensed with algae, dead roots and decaying fish poop. The worms play a vital role, facilitating the bioconversion of solid matter. Bacteria plays a vital role, converting the liquid ammonia to nitrate. Algae builds the entire system with a daily dose of nitrogen, phosphorus, trace elements and minerals.
