Men's pole vault competition from the 1993 Athletics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. 3 men clear 5.90m with Sergey Bubka winning the competition with a 6.00m clearance on his first attempt. His jump at 5.90 was quite possibly the highest jump in the history of the pole vault. Bubka's hip height was amazingly clear, and it would have simply become a question of depth and bar placement as to whether he would have cleared 6.20m+. After clearing 6.00m he moved the bar to 6.14m for a new world record and had 3 decent attempts at this height (one shown on this clip). It was an amazing competition with some great jumps. The fifth of Bubka's astonishing six straight World Championship Pole Vault Gold Medals ,which he won with a vault of 5.92 metres. This clip also shows a failed attempt at a new world record of 6.15m (which he had already attained as an Indoor WR) and a short interview in English. There are a couple of seemingly unattainable WR's in the book,and I'm guessing I might well have passed on before this fella's records are touched!

These are primarily misses late in the competition but it does include at least one attempt from all four medalists, plus one from Doug Lytle of the United States. Hwa Chong Institution Chan Sheng Yao yesterday at the 2012 SAA Track and Field Series 2 raised Singapore boys' youth record by a centimeter to 4.63 metres. His first pole vault trial at 4.40 metres was 20 centimeters better than his second place competitor, and Chan Sheng Yao easily cleared that height with room to spare. The 16-year-old then raised the bar another 23 centimeters gunning for his own youth record which previously stood at 4.62 metres , set last year in July at the SAA Track and Field Series 5. That performance last year alone, he surpassed the pole vault 2011 SEA Games qualifying mark but the bespectacled athlete was too young to be considered for a nomination under IAAF competition age ruling as he was still 15-years-old. With 4.40 metres out of the way, Chan Sheng Yao first two attempts at 4.63 metres proved to be difficult as he snagged the pole vault bar on both occasion. After receiving instructions from his Coach, David Yeo, he composed himself for a final try. Chan Sheng Yao in his last third attempt of his second pole vault trial finally registered a new youth record. In the process the student athlete has surpassed pole vault qualifying mark for SEA Youth boys (4.40 metres), and the Asian Junior Championship (4.50 metres). Chan Sheng Yao brimming with confidence after soaring over 4.63 metres then attempted to break his training partner Sean Lim's pole vault men national record of 4.82 metres by attempting 4.83 metres. Hope these videos inspire some young American out there to take back the World Record in the Pole Vault. Watch the entire history of pole vaulting including the first world record to present day. This video (originally VHS) was rumored to originated from Scottie Huffman to Coach James from Baylor who ended up bringing to Liberty University. Liberty is most known for its distance runners but in the late 80's through 90's was known for its Decathletes and Pole Vaulters - this video was handed down to me watch as an underclassmen to analyze the form of the greats. I can honestly say I've watch it over 1000 times.
