These stools are made up of the seat, four legs, four aprons and four rungs. You will want to cut the legs to length on the miter saw, then lay out and drill 1 inch diameter holes for the long and short rungs. Next, you will cut the aprons. Cut the long and short aprons to shape with a jigsaw. Then add pocket holes at the end and center. Attach all together with pocket hole screws. Finally, cut the dowels for the long and short rungs 1/4 inch longer than the length provided to allow for sanding the rungs flush after assembly. Now it is time for the stool assembly. Attach the long and short aprons to the stool legs with glue and pocket hole screws. Then apply glue around the circumference on the ends of the long and short rungs, and insert them in the holes in the stool legs. Secure the rungs with nails. Lastly, attach the seat assemblies to the stool base assemblies with glue and pocket hole screws. The final steps to this project are adding any finishing touches. This is an interesting woodspirt that I recently carved on the top of a nice sourwood stick. The top few inches of the stick were slightly twisted and thus added a nice look to the woodspirit face. I finished the carving with thinned down acrylic paints layered on and sealed with with Krylon spray sealer. After an antique wash using watered down burnt umber acrylic paint, I used gloss polyurethane as the final sealer. Always think "Safety First" when carving wood no matter how much experience you have. Always wear a good cut resistant glove such as those made from kevlar on the non-carving hand and if you're not using a table clamp or vise then always use a lap board to protect your legs. A homemade pine desk that I built for myself. I used the kreg jig to assemble the joints. The stain is minwax golden pecan, with gloss polyurethane on top to finish. This is my first piece of furniture built so I did make some mistakes. I later filled the drill marks on the legs with wood putty and stained them, which looks a lot more professional now. And next time I will find a better way to attach the top rather than using finishing nails and leaving all the small holes
