Tiny, portable, prefab cube shelters in medieval French town
They're just 3 meters (9.8 feet) by 3 meters and just about as high. They'd make great tiny homes, but these portable cube prefabs- they can be moved on a flatbed (in 2 parts) and dropped anywhere with a forklift- are being used across France as rural hotels. Carré d'étoiles translates to "box of stars" and this vacation prefab was designed for stargazing, with a large domed skylight just feet above the lofted bed. It's less than 100 square feet, but it sleeps four (platform and sofa beds) and includes a kitchen with stove, sink and refridgerator, sitting area, a bathroom, a shower, plus storage and shelving. They're not cheap, but the 30900 euro (~$40000) price tag, includes all transport to the site and marketing (since it's assumed they'll be used as vacation rentals). In this video, Caroline of the Carrés d'étoiles de la Paleine, France shows us the three cubes she has installed on the premises of her home/chateau/hotel in the medieval village of Puy-Notre-Dame (in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional park). We remove the bricks and construction material so we can get the fireplace out through the chase. Inside the living room, we put a dust shield on the fireplace to keep the dust out. Up on the roof, we remove the rusty chase pan cover and the old, damaged liner. Working both from the outside and inside, we remove the old fireplace. This involves a lot of pulling, pushing, wiggling, and kicking. After getting the fireplace out, we board up the opening in the chase overnight, to protect it from the predicted rain. The next day, we install the new fireplace unit. From the top of the chimney, we install the new liner, connecting it to the top of the fireplace. We install the new chase pan cover, storm collar, and chimney cap. We cover the chase pan cover with a product called RustOleum to protect it from the elements. From the inside, we secure the new unit in place. We connect the fireplace to an outside air source. We install the new wall studs, board up the opening, and add the new insulation. Prefab Sprout debuted in 1982 with their self-released single, "Lions In My Own Garden: Exit Someone" - songwriter Paddy McAloon wanted a song title where the first letters of the words spelled out Limoges, the French city where his former girlfriend was staying at the time. Music journalist, Stuart Maconie, described the track as "enigmatic, melancholy, tuneful and therefore perfect for a jobless literature graduate with girlfriend problems". Their debut album, Swoon, was released on the Kitchenware label in March 1984. The following album, the Thomas Dolby-produced Steve McQueen, (released in America as Two Wheels Good after McQueen's estate expressed their displeasure with the title) was highly praised by critics. Their Protest Songs album was recorded next, but was not released until 1989. It included the song "Life of Surprises", which later became the title track for their greatest hits compilation album.

Prefabs are basically virtual objects that you can populate with any object of you scene and than place the prefab anywhere in your scene and a copy of the object you have placed in the prefab will appear. This method just basically allows a much quicker workflow and brings some organization to your project. My name is Jim Blackender I am a tenant on the Excalibur Prefab Estate Catford SE6 1RP, a very unique Historic Estate, As tenants we are trying to highlight the difficulties we are having trying to save our historic estate from the bulldozers The Decent Homes Standard has given councils the golden opportunity to write off vast amounts of housing stock as non decent and transfer their stocks to housing associations who build in its place high density housing estates. The Excalibur Prefab Estate is the largest of its kind now left in Europe. Europe values its war time history, we on the estate think it's time we did too. Stock Transfer. Whether stock transfer will go ahead on the Excalibur prefab estate will depend on a ballot of the tenants of this estate. The Ballot is due in April 2008. But we have been told by Lewisham council (in writing) if we vote yes, the stock will be transferred to London & Quadrant, and the estate will be demolished, and if we vote no to stock transfer, the estate will be put forward for a regeneration scheme, Lewisham council will select a housing association of its choice, and the estate will be demolished, so not really a choice at all is it? Just a greedy grab for land, what happened to democracy? A grab for land and a multi- million pound deal will be done -at the expense of our history.
