Mayor Richard Berry on Thursday vetoed the City Council�s request for a federal investigation into civil rights violations by Albuquerque police, the same day he met with top executives of the US Department of Justice to discuss the allegations. Berry said the actions aren�t inconsistent. The veto of the legislation, he said, was based partly on procedural questions, such as whether City Council approval of the bill violated the state Open Meetings Act. Furthermore, he said, his administration is already cooperating with the Department of Justice, which will decide on its own whether a full investigation is warranted. APD officers have shot 19 men since January 2010; 13 of them have died. The majority have been Hispanic men in their 20s and 30s. In addition to the shootings, APD has struggled with officers posting offensive comments on social media websites. Most operating systems have utilities which will cache the SSID and security credentials (if applicable) and use it the next time the network is available in the vicinity. This is a major security problem. A hacker could very easily setup a tool which monitors the air for Probe Request packets. Once a Probe Request packet is seen over the air, the tool automatically responds to it and establishes a communication with the client. This now gives the hacker IP level access to it. From here on, he can run tools like Metasploit to break into the computer.

Now, the traditional way in which wireless LANs were designed -- what we think of as the legacy design of wireless LANs -- is really based on micro cell architecture. Now, the way micro cell works is the following. You have multiple access points, each access point has a certain coverage region, and it advertises its presence. The way it advertises its presence is by means of a wireless MAC address, or what is known in the trade as BSSID. This is just an index. It looks like a MAC address. And what it does is it advertises the presence of this access point. So when a client comes into a network, or in other words when a client is trying to establish connectivity, it does a probe. It looks to see what are all the BSSIDs or access points that are in the network, and the client sends out a probe request. All the access points that hear this probe request and want to serve the client will send a probe response, then the client decides which access point to use. So in this instance, let's assume there is, first off -- there are two access points, call them AP1 and AP2. AP1 advertises for a certain SSID, which is a wireless service, let's say BSSID1. From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart Concerns about voter registration forms submitted by ACORN in Indiana have led Indiana's Secretary of State to ask for a criminal investigation of the group. (CNN) — Indiana's secretary of state has requested a criminal investigation into the embattled community organizing group ACORN, which is accused of submitting hundreds of bogus voter registration forms in northern Lake County. The request is based on Secretary of State Todd Rokita's preliminary examination and analysis of 1438 questionable voter registration applications ACORN submitted in the county, which includes the city of Gary. Rokita, a Republican, has concluded there is "significant, credible evidence" that ACORN violated Indiana and federal law. A federal probe into how an air traffic controller's error put two jets in danger of colliding over Hawaii shows the worker didn't believe he was ready to direct aircraft from the radar station where he was assigned and had asked for more training. The incident involved a Japan Airlines flight from Tokyo and a United Parcel Service flight from Louisville, Ky., as they approached Honolulu International Airport on the morning of Jan. 14. Federal Aviation Administration investigation documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show the jets came within 300 feet of each other vertically and less than two miles horizontally before changing course to avoid getting too close. FAA rules required the planes to be separated by at least 1000 feet vertically or three miles horizontally. But the allegations of sexual harassment are not the only controversies surrounding Cain. Also on Monday, the Wisconsin-based Center for Media and Democracy filed a complaint asking the Internal Revenue Service to investigate whether one of his top aides has used tens of thousands of dollars from a tax-exempt non-profit organization to fund Cain's political activities. Citing leaked financial records, the Center says Cain's campaign manager, Mark Block, used at least $40000 dollars from his group, Prosperity USA, to pay for Cain's private jets, air travel and computers when he was exploring a presidential bid. Block founded Prosperity USA just last year. The leaked records cited in the complaint also suggest extensive financial ties between Block's Prosperity USA, the Cain campaign, and the right-wing advocacy group founded by the billionaire David Koch, Americans for Prosperity. Vandals smashed glass in windows and doors of the mosque, causing an estimated $60000 in damage, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which has put out a release asking for the FBI to investigate. "Any time a house of worship is targeted in this manner, law enforcement authorities must consider a possible bias motive," said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. Fairfax County Police responded to the construction site of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mosque, located at 4555 Ahmadiyya Drive on Monday shortly after 8:30 am, they said. Police found extensive damage to the mosque, which is still under construction, but found no evidence that the building was entered. Another Day Another Police Beating In The USA,The FBI has agreed to investigate the beating of a man by Minneapolis police officers, after a video of the incident was released,Derryl M. Jenkins was arrested in February 2009 during a traffic stop, and charged with assault and refusing to submit to alcohol tests. The charges were later dropped but police chief Tim Dolan has admitted that some of the responding officers' actions are cause for concern. A video of the incident has since been released on the request of Jenkins. It shows several officers arrive at the scene after one policeman tried to make the initial arrest. Many of the backup officers are seen punching and kicking Jenkins as they try to handcuff him. No disciplinary action has been taken against the officers involved, and Dolan said the man who tried to make the initial arrest appears to have acted appropriately.
