The Prospector's Eye - Part 1
Mining isnt new to Nevada. In fact, it might be the oldest profession in the state. Still hunting today prospectors search the desert in hopes of finding the next big strike. Get a different view of Nevada when watching The Prospector's Eye. Nevada, meaning "snow covered" in Spanish, extends out over thousands of square miles of rugged basin and range country. Most of its population lives in the Las Vegas area to the south, and the Reno area to the north, leaving the rest of the land to the jackrabbits, wild horses and relatively few human residents and visitors. To get a sense of this vast land, documentarians spent several days tagging along with those who perhaps know it best, the prospectors, to see it through their eyes. The video explores those rough and rugged entrepreneurs who still possess the pioneer spirit and comb the vast lands of the Nevada desert looking for the treasures that might lie beneath. John M. Gomes, a member of a pioneer Golconda family, was born in Oakland, California, in 1925. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1943 and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He holds a BS degree in metallurgy from the Mackay School of Mines and is retired from the United States Bureau of Mines. Presently, John and his wife, Gloria, a Pershing County native, live in Reno. Mr. Gomes has been a docent at the Nevada Historical Society since 1994. www.nevadaculture.org

PROSPECTOR BRINGS BUCKETS OF GOLD HOME
I go to Trinity County and prospect for gold. Each place that I take a ore sample, I mark the sample with its GPS coordinates. We each bring about 10 buckets of ore home to process. We take one day to go get our buckets of ore. Then, we take our time processing it. We use a small sluice and our other gold prospecting equipment. If a bucket shows a lot of color, we return and work that area good.

GOLD PROSPECTOR' USES MAGNETS TO CLEAN MAGNETITE FROM BLACK SAND
I just bought a series of magnets to remove magnetite from my gold pan and from my sluice box.. Gold and magnetite are heavies that are found together. If one can remove the magnetite, it is much easier to isolate the gold. In the sluice box, there is a black sand build up which requires the cleaning of the riffles frequently. If the magnetite is removed, one has more time to process gold and less to clean up. It makes for a more efficent operation.

My first try at using a sluice, that I modified. Opinions please. Also check out this interesting "Gold/crevice sucker" tube, it is incredibly cheap, and seems to work VERY well!!! Rob from www.oregongoldhunters.com told me not to mess with the flare, but I did not listen, lol. BIG mistake!! He helps so much with anything he can. This video shows surveillance footage of the Prospector's (Allies) primary and secondary combat functions. Battlefield reconnaissance has revealed at least these facts about the Prospector: • Easy does it -- A single prospector is included in the cost of an Allied ore refinery, and will immediately begin gathering resources from the nearest ore mine. One prospector is designed to efficiently gather from a single source, so it simply needs to be defended as it goes about its gathering route. • On-demand Command Hub -- Each prospector is outfitted to convert into an Allied command hub when the need arises (though the conversion is irreversibly complex). Command hubs provide clearance for other Allied structures to be built nearby, and also relay other important data to those structures. • Amphibious resourcing -- Prospectors can traverse land and water with equal ease, because of their automated aqua-sensitive air cushions. Their driving characteristics are similar on all terrain. • Unarmed but not defenseless -- When threatened by Soviet conscripts or other raiding parties operating on foot, Allied prospector drivers have been known to drive straight through the danger.
