#OWS Protesters March On The Brooklyn Bridge 700+ Arrested 10-1-11

Protesters started marching up the pedestrian walk way over the bridge while others tried to take the traffic lane. For a few minutes officers held the line and then they turned around and led the way up the traffic lane on the Brooklyn Bridge. From what I saw no police told any of the protesters to leave until they created a barricade in front of the march about halfway through the bridge. They then pulled vans and buses up to the back of the group and started arresting everyone. In total over 700 people were arrested.

NYPD Cop Punches Protester at Occupy Wall Street, 10/14/11

Journalist and Reason contributor Michael Tracey is covering New York's Occupy Wall Street as it's happening. Above is footage he shot as the protesters marched through the street of Manhattan and had various stand-offs with the New York Police Department. Tracey himself reports being punched in the shoulder while filming. In the above video, around the 1.40 mark, a white-shirted NYPD officer decks a protester in a green shirt (how the incident started is unclear). Occupy Denver video: Cops pepper-spray protesters, fire rubber bullets

Video courtesy: www.youtube.com www.youtube.com The most violent clash between OWS supporters and the police so far has erupted in Denver, as the authorities attempted to dismantle an Occupy camp. The Internet is swamped with hundreds of angry messages and pictures of rubber bullet wounds. Denver police took their best shot at dismantling the OWS camp over the weekend. To disperse the crowd they used tear gas, batons, and rubber bullets, which are considered to be a "safe deterrent." RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

OWS gather steam from nationwide protest cop crackdown

Hundreds of arrests, accusations of police brutality and dozens of injuries - this is how the 'Occupy' movement in the US marked its two-month anniversary this week. Officers in riot gear tore down camps and broke up mostly peaceful demos against the unequal distribution of wealth in major American cities. At the heart of the campaign, in New York, a crowd of activists took to the subway and tried to block off the Stock Exchange. Evidence has been emerging of disproportionate police action in response to the rallies. At the University of California, a group of students staging a sit-down protest were pepper-sprayed in the face. In an earlier incident, an officer was filmed beating an Iraq war veteran so hard he suffered a ruptured spleen, although he seemed to pose no threat. And yet, as Anastasia Churkina reports, the crackdown is not deterring protesters. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Violence ends brief truce at Egypt protest

Thousands of demonstrators remained camped out in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Wednesday night as dozens of wounded protesters were being treated in makeshift hospitals. A brief attempt by Egypt's military to interpose a ceasefire between riot police and civilians near the epicentre of protests against military rule earlier disintegrated into another night of violence. Video: OWS protesters interrupt Obama's speech

The 99 percent approached President Barack Obama this afternoon, surprising the commander in chief with a "mic check" during a speech he was making in New Hampshire. Speaking from Manchester, NH Tuesday to discuss the American economy, President Obama was interrupted by protesters employing the "People's Microphone," a method of spreading news and alerts made popular by the Occupy Wall Street movement after demonstrators were denied usage of megaphones. "Mic check," a lone voice yelled during the president's speech, which prompted a boisterous echo from other protesters in the crowd. A series of call-and-response quips ensued, overwhelming the president and causing him to momentarily stop his speech. Though the chants were cut short due to a roar of cheers and jeers, the attempted message in full has made its way to the Web. "Mr. President: Over 4000 peaceful protesters have been arrested while banksters continue to destroy the economy,"protesters proclaimed. "You must stop the assault on our First Amendment rights. Your silence sends a message that police brutality is acceptable. Banks got bailed out. We got sold out." RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Washington DC (October 4, 2011) -- Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today released the following video and statement in support of the protestors on Wall Street and around the country who have identified themselves with the hashtag #OccupyWallStreet: "To the young men and women who are braving the overreaction of local authorities to raise their voices against the corruption and manipulation of our nation that emanates from Wall Street: I say to you that your presence is making a difference. You are exercising the right every American holds most dear, the right of freedom of expression, and with that expression you are finally getting the attention of the nation. "Wall Street banks got billion dollar bailouts but the American people get austerity. Fourteen million Americans are out of work. 50 million people don't have health insurance and a million people a year lose their homes to foreclosure. Our policies take the wealth of the nation and accelerate it into the hands of the few. "We need a government of the people and for the people. We need a financial system that is of the people and for the people. It is time we take our nation back and take our monetary system back from the big banks. #OccupyWallStreet: Man assaulted, hidden from Press, denied lawyer. 10.14.11

Occupy Wall St March of 14.10.11. At apx 6:30 am, it was announced in the General Assembly (GA) that Brookfield Properties was not going to force an eviction under the guise of "park-cleaning". Around 7:30 or so, the pent-up energy of the hundreds of protestors packed cheek to jowl exploded into two unscheduled and, as usual, unpermitted marches: one going north on Broadway, the other going south. This is footage from the south-bound march. In front of 33 Beaver St, the protestors, fed up from harassment eariler in the day, and being chased and herded by a phalanx of cop-cycles, decided to turn in protest and stand their ground. There were a good many hot-heads on both sides. As you can see, a few protestors pushed the cycles, resulting in escalation which suddenly resulted in a rush-attack by the police. Key points to notice here: 1) The protestor who you can see getting arrested is mostly passive. 2) The aggressiveness of the protestors in no way justifies the brutality seen here and in later clashes. 3) The Press is denied access to view and record the beating, arrest, and handling of this protestor. indeed, they are chased off with night-sticks. 4) The (green-hat) member of the lawyers guild was denied access to protect her client.
