What is Public Relations?

www.truebluecommunications.com. What is Public Relations? True Blue Communications' Principal and President Noelle Anderson explains what public relations really means. For all of your Public Relations and marketing needs contact us now: Tel: (813) 380-0314 or visit our website at www.truebluecommunications.com. PR Firm Tampa. Tampa PR Firm. PR Firm Clearwater. Video Transcript Today we're going to have a vocabulary lesson. And the term is "public relations." What is public relations? This is a term that I hear very frequently misused, sometimes, unfortunately, even among my peers. Many people think that PR is getting a company or a client's name printed or broadcast in the news media, which formerly we would call "media relations." Media relations is and can be a function of public relations, but that is not "public relations" defined. That would be like saying a point of purchase display or a direct mail piece is "marketing." In my studies, I have come across many attempts to define "public relations," and here is my favorite. It says that "public relations" is the management function that builds and maintains relationships with the key groups of people, the "publics," upon which the success or failure of your business depends. In short, what that means is PR is all about increasing exposure and also staying on good terms with the people who could make or break your business. A key phrase to pull out of that definition I just gave was "building and maintaining <b>...</b>

It is essential that businesses know how to communicate quickly, often preemptively, and effectively to survive-and at a cost that is far lower than comparable marketing and ad campaigns. The first book by the owner of a top 50 PR agency, For Immediate Release, Ronn Torossian, CEO of 5WPR reveals how public relations can do just that-while also defining brands; helping companies and individuals court the press or avoid it; growing business without alienating loyal customers; resolving crises quickly; and improving first page results on the most powerful search engine in the world (Google). For Immediate Release will show you how to: Frame the debate and control the conversation Use new and old media in tandem to find your audiences and create highly personal, relevant impressions tailored for them Promote the interests of your brand or business; deter or potentially stop what is not in your interest Build on great press, and avoid or minimize bad press Ensure the first thing people see about your business or brand during an Internet search is exactly what you want them to see Handle a crisis in the most effective and efficient manner See the positive difference effective PR makes through compelling case studies-Louis Vuitton, Fubu, BP, Toyota, Philip Stein, Zappos, and interviews with experts including Dr. Keith Ablow, political strategists Roger Stone and Hank Sheinkopf, and many others-and your own business. :: Edward Bernays : on Propaganda and Public Relations ::

Edward Bernays on propaganda and public relations with a polemic insert from Steven Pinker's 'The Staff of Thought'. Can elite bards and scribblers create new metaphors to manipulate public opinion? I think they can, and apparently they do. According to the The Government Accounting Office, the Bush administration spent $1.6 billion over the last two and a half years on public relations operations. That's $1.6 billion of our tax money commandeered for, among other things, OTI-style partisan propaganda here at home, aimed at affecting domestic elections. Included in this figure is a mysterious $15 million paid directly to individual members of the media. This information comes on the tail of previous disclosures concerning covert propaganda operations including the production of fake TV news stories and Bush administration payoffs to crooked journalists to slant stories even further in a pro-Bush direction than the normal corporate media spin. PR Firms = Propaganda

The tip of th e iceberg that we call the American media. It's not what it once was (if it EVER was, to begin with)... John Stauber is a left-wing American writer and political activist who co-authored five books about propaganda by governments, private interests and the PR industry. They include one book about industry manipulating science, Trust Us, We're Experts, one about the history and current scope of the public relations industry (Toxic Sludge is Good for You), and one about mad cow disease (Mad Cow USA), which predicted the surfacing of the disease within the United States. In July 2003 he and Sheldon Rampton wrote Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq, that argued that the Bush administration deceived the US into supporting the war. In 2004, the two wrote Banana Republicans, which argued that the Republican Party is turning the US into a one-party state. The book argues that the far-right and its functionaries in the media, lobbying establishment and electoral system are undermining dissent and squelching pluralistic politics in the United States. Stauber is the founder and executive director of the The Center for Media & Democracy, which sponsors PR Watch and SourceWatch. Since the 1960s, he has worked with public interest, consumer, family farm, environmental and community organizations at the local, state and national level. He edits and writes for the Center's quarterly newsmagazine, PR Watch.
