How to Remove the Crank Shaft Pulley Bolt on a Honda Accord
I broke my 180lb torque wrench trying to get this off!! Here is how we got it off. As you see in the video we put a 6 foot pipe (from our car jack) on the end on our breaker bar. I bent that thing down to the FLOOR almost six times until we got that bolt off! I heated the bolt with a blow torch in between my attempts. Upon inspection it looks like the idiot that I bought the car from was super anal and put Lock Tight on the bolt!!!

Removing Crankshaft Pulley Bolt on 2001 Honda Civic EX
Instead of purchasing the 50mm holder tool from Honda for $160 I decided to follow the instructions in Haynes. I used a chain wrench ($10) and a 12 foot extension pipe ($9) from Sears and the power steering belt that I just removed to grip the crankshaft pulley.

This video demonstrates the excessive levels of NVH, belt system stress and other severe issues resulting from the use of a SOLID ALTERNATOR PULLEY on this Ford engine. Throughout this test all drive components, lengths, and sizes remained constant. The only variable was the alternator pulley/decoupler technology. (RotoRX is the former brand name of the Litens OAD decoupler.) This clip shows the use of a variety of ONE-WAY CLUTCH alternator pulleys on the same engine. Now we see the smooth, efficient operation of the same engine belt drive system using an OAD decoupler pulley. The Litens OAD was previously marketed under the RotorRX brand.

I designed this pump in Bolivia as an alternative to the usual expensive hand pumps that were available to the people there. The idea is very ancient, going back to Chinese 'water ladders' and afterwards the chain and washer pumps. The rubber washers on this one are punched from tire sidewalls, threaded on to 1/4" polypropylene rope, and knots tied on either side of the washers. The actual pumping section is at the bottom, and is a 3' length of 1" PVC pipe. There are always at least three washers in the pumping section to minimize leakback (but only three to minimize friction), and always at least three washers being gripped by the pulleys made of tire sidewalls. The pump is quite simple to make and inexpensive. Notice that it does take some time for the pump to fill the 1.25" riser pipe and finally exit the unit. This pump required an extra set of drive pulleys so the operator could lift water into a raised tank. The drive belt is made from a long spiral piece of rubber cut from a tire sidewall and with the ends wired together. The tires were all free from a local tire shop. Note that the R & W pump can be used as a water-driven motor if it's used in reverse, ie falling water is allowed into the upper pipe and exits at the bottom. Power can then be taken off the pulley shaft.

Seeing as I cant get any steel pulleys with a 1inch sahft anywhere I decided to make my own, by drilling out the centres of each pulley, then cutting out a flange for them to fit on, which also helped make them centred. The front engine pulley is a 6.5" and worked perfectly. The back is a 5.5", but I somehow managed to make it off centre. I dont feel like redoing the whole thing, so Im gonna buy a rear pulley for it, has to be aluminium though... but we'll see how that works out. Im also planny to put some bigger wheels up front. I needed a matched set of large flat-belt pullies for a band saw. These were too expensive on line so I decided to machine a set out of a 45lb lifting plate. These should not crack as they are slammed around a gym. I machined the the internal hole for an SDS bushing and the external edge just needed a skim cut to make it round. Came out real good, nice and round and true.
