Radio Moscow - Lickskillet

Radio Moscow is the debut studio album by American psychedelic rock band Radio Moscow, released on February 27, 2007 "Although some describe them as "psychedelic blues rock," the Ames, IA, duo Radio Moscow is more of a throwback to the classic rock of the '70s. Their story is a true "being in the right place at the right time" tale, as the band's singer/guitarist/drummer, Parker Griggs, managed to get a demo tape into the hands of the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach after a gig. Auerbach liked the demo so much, he invited Griggs and bassist Luke McDuff to his home studio in Akron, OH, and produced their 2007 self-titled debut. The end result calls on several recognizable hits/bands of yesteryear. Highlights include "Lucky Dutch," which contains a beefy riff that's reminiscent of Ram Jam's "Black Betty," and "Lickskillet" begins as an acoustic blues ditty, before transforming into an Allman Brothers-esque dual-guitar fest (complete with slide guitar), while both "Mistreating Queen" and "Whatever Happened" are muscular riff rock à la the Jeff Beck Group. Radio Moscow (English, Soviet Union 1980s)

In the late 1970s its English language service was renamed Radio Moscow World Service. The project was launched and supervised by a long-time Radio Moscow journalist and manager Alexander Evstafiev. Later a North American service, African service and even a "UK & Ireland" service (all in English) operated for a few hours per day alongside the regular (24 Hour) English World Service as well as services in other languages, the "Radio Peace and Progress" service and a small number of programmes from some of the USSR republics. Broadcasting Soviet information was Radio Moscow's primary function. All programmes (except for short newsbreaks) had to be cleared by a "Programming Directorate", a form of censorship that was only removed in 1991. At its peak, Radio Moscow broadcast in over 70 languages using transmitters in the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, and Cuba. Radio Moscow's interval signal was 'My Country's Vast' (Russian: Широка страна моя родная), played on chimes. This has been changed to Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky in 1991. A move has been made in an attempt to drift away from the image of the communist propaganda media. One of the most popular programmes on air in the 1980s, due to its informal presentation that contrasted with most other shows, was the 'Listeners Request Club' hosted by prominent radio presenter Vasily Strelnikov. Another popular feature which began on Radio Moscow was Moscow Mailbag, which answered listeners' questions about the former ...

Radio Moscow kill at Grimey's New & Preloved Music. Right after this song I involuntary yelled, "Screw the Black Keys!" Their whole in-store performance was that bad ace. I wasn't the only one that thought so either. They melted faces with pure psychedelic rock and roll. radiomoscow.net http www.mixcloud.com ***Update*** Just found out The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach produced Radio Moscow's first album. Whoops! No wonder I thought they sounded like a younger, more raw and unpolished Black Keys.

Radio Moscow "Deep Blue Sea"

Once again Radio Moscow return to the Catalyst in Santa Cruz California, a premier band headliner of this show Parker Griggs introduces Billy Ellsworth - Bassman (think we'll call him "Tall Man") and Lonnie Blanton...Percussion as the newest members of the band... The Bad Light enticed the street goers onto the floor playing deep rythmantics, an original called "Modern World", chilling and quite awesome, for a two man team a full bodied blend. Right there in center position was the local favorite Dusted Angel. Clifford Dinsmore gives a remarkable vocal performance of original music; "Sensory Obliteration", "Kiss of Shame" and our personal favorite "Dog Whistle". Video of those sets coming soon.
