Today, my body was a TV'd massacre that had to fit into sound-bites and word limits. Today, my body was a TV'd massacre that had to fit into sound-bites and word limits filled enough with statistics to counter measured response. And I perfected my English and I learned my UN resolutions. But still, he asked me, Ms. Ziadah, don't you think that everything would be resolved if you would just stop teaching so much hatred to your children? Pause. I look inside of me for strength to be patient but patience is not at the tip of my tongue as the bombs drop over Gaza. Patience has just escaped me. Pause. Smile. We teach life, sir! Rafeef, remember to smile. Pause. We teach life, sir! We Palestinians teach life after they have occupied the last sky. We teach life after they have built their settlements and apartheid walls, after the last skies. We teach life, sir! 2:04 But today, my body was a TV'd massacre made to fit into sound-bites and word limits. And just give us a story, a human story. You see ...

Rafeef Ziadah - Hadeel

Rafeef Ziadah is a Canadian-Palestinian spoken word artist and activist. Her debut CD Hadeel is dedicated to Palestinian youth, who still fly kites in the face of F16 bombers, who still remember the names of their villages in Palestine and still hear the sound of Hadeel (cooing of doves) over Gaza. Hadeel Hadeel is nine. Hadeel was nine. Official said Israeli official said they regret her death ''but terrorism must stop, rockets must stop, resistance must stop '' or they will continue to shell Gaza until we surrender the bit of dignity we have left. Until we elect who they want sign what they want and die in silence the way they want. They smile and regret death as a casual accident and regret how Palestinian children die in a collective torture chamber: Gaza. Israeli security is absolute written with blood and bulldozers and the art of women spokespersons because death is softer coming from a woman death is more polite coming from a woman. And who who will tell Hadeel's mother busy baking bread and za'atar that doves will not fly over Gaza again doves will not fly over Gaza again God died at her feet. Hadeel is gone and her brother Ahmed lost his sight. Hadeel. Every prayer I remember and half-remember won't bring you back every prayer I remember and half-remember won't bring you back as you wrap yourself in stories of Palestine. Gather the other children to cry a while waiting restless for the next soldier to knock down your door. But the Gaza sky the Gaza sky still ...

The video was made with the assistance of Australians for Palestine, Justice for Palestine Brisbane, Coalition for Justice and Peace in Palestine, and a number of individuals including Margaret Cassar, Fay Waddington, Richard Burchorn, Anne Monsour and Gordon Thompson. Ghosts of Deir Yassin They pretend that it's forgotten But somewhere small flowers grow On the weathered stones of destroyed homes Somewhere the light's still in the window You see that we are rising our day is surely coming No longer in the shadows Of the ghosts of Deir Yassin They change the names on the signs But it's in our hearts these words are written Of the children who don't know their homes They will walk the streets from which they are forbidden You see that we are rising our day is surely coming No longer in the shadows Of the ghosts of Deir Yassin Below is the English translation of the Fadwa Tuqan poem performed in this song by Rafeef Ziadah. The Title of the poem is Fee Thikra Al Milad elEshreen - 20th Birthday Anniversary. I challenge .. No, my future I will return with resolve and confidence I hope one day to return to my beloved homeland to the flowers and roses I no longer fear their power I will return Of the old ones now passed on But it's their ...
