Mayor Emanuel's 2012 Chicago City Budget proposes to close half of Chicago's mental health clinics and privatize all 7 of its neighborhood health centers, cutting off access to care to some of Chicago's most vulnerable residents and under-served communities. The Mental Health Movement, launched by Southside Together Organizing for Power (STOP)'s in partnership with the Community Mental Health Board of Chicago and AFSCME Council 31, has been trying to meet with Mayor Emanuel since he was just a candidate. We delivered 4000 letters explaining that closing clinics is dangerous for communities and will carry unanticipated costs in extra hospitalizations and police response to preventable crises. He ignored our letters and announced his plan to close and privatize our clinics. Emanuel Vows 'Full Force' Of Law Will Bring Street Thugs To Justice - A mob of between 15 and 20 African American men and boys are connected to four attacks in Streeterville and along the lakefront. The first weekend attack happened around 8:25 pm Saturday when a man was attacked after parking his motor scooter near the Northwestern University campus in Streeterville. A few minutes after that attack, man riding his bicycle on the lakefront path at 701 N. Lake Shore Dr. was attacked by a group of teenagers, who punched and kicked him. Three African American teens -- Dvonte Sikes, 17, of the 7500 block of South Normal Avenue; Travolus Pickett, 17, of the 8400 block of South Dorchester avenue; and Derodte Wright, 18, of the 3500 block of South State Street -- have been charged as adults with felony robbery and mob action. Sikes' bond was set at $250000. Pickett's at $300000 and Wright's at $200000. Two other 16-year-olds were also charged as juveniles and their names were not released.
