INSIDE SRI LANKA'S KILLING FIELDS | HEADLINES TODAY | RAJAPAKSA FUELS ANGER Sri Lanka war crimes: War survivors relive horror of Sri Lanka's killing fields The closing stages of the Sri Lankan civil war were a story of extreme brutality against civilians by the army. Headlines Today correspondent Priyamvatha travelled (undercover) to Vanni, the former stronghold of the Tamil Tiger rebels in north Sri Lanka, to unravel the facts behind the claims and counterclaims in the land that was witness to one of the worst war crimes committed on civilians anywhere in the world.

25 Dec 2011. In this video (link www.youtube.com President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that the existing Constitution describes a clear process to follow if former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka appeals for a pardon. He says that he would evaluate it if and when such an appeal is made using established regulations. The President made these comments when he met leading Buddhist Clergy of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee and Vavuniya Districts in Polonnaruwa yesterday where he looked into issues faced by the Buddhist monks of the above areas. (source: 2 Oct 2010, Daily News "Constitution describes pardon procedure'". www.dailynews.lk Not much moral reasoning is needed to justify pardoning of imprisoned General Fonseka (imprisoned by 'baseless, spurious and concocted' charges says Anoma Fonseka to Lakbima reporter) who lead Sri Lanka Army to defeat 30yr Elam terrorism in Sri Lanka compared to pardoning of criminal leader Gonawila Sunil by the Former President of Sri Lanka JR under same constitution and same procedures. President JR pardoned thug 'Gonawila Sunil', but current SL President Rajapaksa is unable to pardon war hero General Fonseka who defeated 30rs LTTE terrorism. In this video apparently Sri Lanka President is lying: 0:30 "as the president if a request is made to me (as a procedure mentioned in constitution) a pardon to General Fonseka can be considered." He emphasized to world leaders that he is ready to develop the motherland through home grown solutions. The President was addressing the UN General Assembly Summit last night. The President delivered the address on the inaugural day of the 65th General Assembly Summit, thus becoming the first Sri Lankan Head of State to do so. The President delivered the speech in the first half of the sessions along with some world leaders including US President Barack Obama. The President said the LTTE was an outfit so brutal, that even those it claimed to represent, the Tamil community of Sri Lanka, were as much victims of its terror as the rest of the population of our country. Those who observing from afar, suggested that the Sri Lankan government should have conceded to the demands of the terrorists, need to be reminded that terror is terror, whatever mask it wears and however it is packaged. To all those he said his responsibility was to the entire nation. His responsibility was to the lives of millions of men, women and children, and those yet to be born. His responsibility was to the peace and prosperity of the nation and the right to a peaceful life for all who live there.
