I found out a long time ago how hard Kogan's recordings are to find, and I have been collecting them ever since. I think the best thing Kogan ever did was the Tchaikovsky concerto from a double cd called "Artist Profile", it is out of print but well worth finding and if you ever get a chance to hear Kogan play the Tchaikovsky get it at all costs. I looked and discovered this recording is out of print so I decided it is ok for uploading. I also noticed it is on the oop 10 cd box of "Leonid Kogan Edition" for sale at amazon used for under 40 bux, less than 40 dollars for 10 kogan cds, what a great deal I would snatch that up if I had the money, well worth it! It confuses me how anyone could let these things go out of print??? Kogan, Rabin, Heifetz, Szeryng, and Yulian Stikovetsky were the greatest violinists I ever heard, somehow they stood out a little more than everyone else for some reason. Maybe the most beautiful of all solo works ever written for violin, this has always been an obvious choice for an encore at any performance. I was shocked to find out how difficult this recording is to get and its so so good. Mr Ehnes is well in position to becoming the best violinist since Rabin eclipsing Perlman, Mintz, Zukerman, Kavakos, Kaler, Repin, and anyone else you could possibly think of. I have said this before and Ill say it again anyone who plays Bach and Paganini like this deserves to be heard. Do yourself a big favor and get every recording you can by him. I seem to recall reading this concerto was a favorite of Brahms. I have always been a big fan of Grumiaux but I love Perlman's recording of Viotti 22 just a little bit more - from his cd "Concertos From My Childhood". I do however find it interesting to listen to alternate recordings so I can compare how one performer interprets something in contrast to how someone else interprets the same piece.
