Frankie Laine - Rawhide (Original Stereo)

The theme to television's "Rawhide" was composed by Dimitri Tiomkin with lyrics by Ned Washington. Dimitri Tiomkin was also responsible for the music to "High Noon". Ned Washington also wrote "The Nearness of You" with Hoagy Carmichael and "Stella by Starlight" with Victor Young. The western series starred Eric Fleming and Clint Eastwood in his first major acting exposure. This famous theme was recorded by Frankie Laine with Jimmy Carroll & His Orchestra in 1959.

Sporting cool shades and look-alike suits, Jake and Elwood are dispatched on a "mission from God" by their former teacher, Sister Mary Stigmata (Kathleen Freeman). Said mission is to raise $5000 to save an orphanage. In the course of their zany adventures, the Blues Brothers run afoul of neo-Nazi Henry Gibson, perform the theme from Rawhide before the most unruly bar crowd in written history, and lay waste to hundreds of cars on the streets and freeways of Chicago. In case you aren't swept up in the infectuous nuttiness of the brothers Blue, you might have fun spotting film's legion of guest stars, including James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, John Candy, Carrie Fisher, Steve Lawrence, Twiggy, Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman), Frank Oz, and Steven ...

The Blues Brothers - Rawhide

Rawhide - Elwood and Jake and the Blues Brothers Band, Soundtrack by The Blues Brothers movie1980. The Blues Brothers is a 1980 American musical comedy film directed by John Landis and starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as "Joliet" Jake and Elwood Blues, characters developed from a musical sketch on the NBC variety series Saturday Night Live. It features musical numbers by R&B and soul singers James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and John Lee Hooker. The film is set in and around Chicago, Illinois, and also features non-musical supporting performances by John Candy, Carrie Fisher, Charles Napier, and Henry Gibson. The story is a tale of redemption for paroled convict Jake (Belushi) and his brother Elwood (Aykroyd), who take on "a mission from God" to save from foreclosure the Catholic orphanage in which they grew up. To do so they must reunite their rhythm and blues band, The Blues Brothers, and organize a performance to earn $5000 to pay the tax assessor. Along the way they are targeted by a destructive "mystery woman", Neo-Nazis, and a country and western band—all while being relentlessly pursued by the police. Released in the United States on June 20, 1980, it received generally good reviews with 84% of reviews positive according to the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. It earned just under $5 million in its opening weekend and went on to gross more than $115 million in theaters worldwide before its release on home video. Info ...

Frankie Lane's Rawhide, one of the best TV westerns ever made. Lane came to hate the song because everywhere he went people asked him to sing it rather than the songs he thought were more important and he wanted to sing. You never can choose what you become famous for. PS He hated Mule Train also........

"Rawhide" is a Western song written by Ned Washington (lyrics) and composed by Dimitri Tiomkin in 1958. It was originally recorded by Frankie Laine. The song was used as the theme to Rawhide, the western television series that ran on CBS from 1959 to 1966. Bill Monroe ----- Rawhide

This is a very nice and very rare version of Mr Monroe's Rawhide. The info I have is that it was recorded on 20/06/1966 at Tex Logans home in Madison, New Jersey. There are quite a few well known musicians there and apparently they played untill 5 or 6 o'clock in the morning. Around 54 songs in total with different musicians at different times during the evening. Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys with: Peter Rowan - guitar Don Lineburger - banjo James Monroe - bass Gene Lowinger - fiddle Tex Logan - fiddle Richard Greene - fiddle Some or all of the above musicians played during this song

173rd Airborne Brigade Rawhide Song

"The term "Herd" used with pride by veterans of the 173rd Airborne Brigade on the island of Okinawa. This nickname was coined by Colonel 'Rawhide' Boland of the 1/503rd. Colonel Boland while on leave heard, liked and bought a copy of Frankie Laine's old song "Rawhide" from the TV series of the same name. The colonel, on returning to 173rd base camp on the island of Okinawa, played the song over the PA system during all battalion formations. We as paratroopers had to run to and from all these formations, and with the roads being unpaved kicked, up quit a cloud of dust. One of his staff remarked that we looked like a herd of cattle and you can guess the rest. Colonel Boland was given the name Rawhide and the battalion was referred to as the Herd. The rest of the brigade adopted the name once in Nam and no one is sure when or how that began. Colonel Boland at 88 years of age was still signing his name as 'Rawhide Boland.'" ~ John "Dutch" Holland, Bravo Company, 1st Batt., 503rd Infantry, Vietnam~. Michael Skinner: Rawhide Braiding

Michael Skinner grew up in a cattle ranch in Jordan Valley, Oregon and now lives in Kirkland. During his childhood he was able to observe the hired hands braiding rawhide and leather horse tack, which sparked his interest in the process. His business career took him out of the agricultural field and he was unable to fully pursue that interest until 2002 when he received a WSAC Apprenticeship Program grant to study with Steve Derricott, of Boise, Idaho. Derricott was apprenticed to his father in the mid 1990s and uses a series of contrasting interweaves to create truly unique pieces of braid work. Rawhide braiding was adapted from skills used by Native Americans, Mexican Americans and other cowboys to create functional horse tack. His work may be seen at the Washington State History Museum's Exhibit "With Our Hands" www.washingtonhistory.org Video by Anders and Jens Lund
