Transcript of letter: Good morning, I am writing from the Union-Endicott Central School District to ask you to please consider our concerns regarding the fact that Senate and Assembly are planning on passing legislation this week for Earth Day that would prohibit the use of certain pesticides on school property. While well meaning, the bill is harmful. In the midst of weathering the fiscal crisis, the state would force schools to buy new products, as well as hire and pay to train new staff. It would also impose a senseless uniform approach to problems that are unique in each school district. The legislation purports to advance the safety of children but ignores the threat of Lyme Disease and other pest-borne diseases and, just as importantly, the history of school districts' judicious use of these products. Please know that we are not endangering the health of our students (as the sponsors claim). Please realize that this bill will add another unfunded mandated to an already long list of unnecessary, unpaid requirements placed upon us and our taxpayers, with no evidence of necessity.
