Manuals can be found at the dealer and online.** Harley Davidson brake pads have wear indicator marks in the brake pad friction material, but the marks are sometimes hard to see with the pads installed on the motorcycle. By removing the brake pads from the motorcycle you can easily see and measure the brake pad wear. The minimum brake pad friction material thickness for the 2008 Harley Davidson Road Glide for both the front and rear brakes is .016". The brake pads can be measured using a set of calipers. This is a quick and dirty rear disc brake pad replacement on our 2007 MINI Cooper S. However, this procedure is the same for ALL model Mini's (except for the Countryman) from 2002 on. The only difference is that the earlier brake pads have different styled clips on either side vs. the square tabs on the later style pads shown in the video. Remove the old pads, remove and clean the shims. Remove the resivoir cap so you can wind the piston back into the caliper. refit the new pads, into the shims. Put the caliper back in place and put the wheel back on, and torque the wheels back up. Video I made detailing how to replace the front and rear brake pads on a 2004 or 2005 Suzuki GSXR-600 or 750. Most modern sportbikes should be VERY similar, so this should apply to lots of different makes and models (with the exception of socket sizes and torque specs) Two things I forgot to mention in the video: 1. Its a good idea to sand down your rotors with 600 grit sand paper when changing your brake pads to remove all the old pad material. 2. Your pads, depending on the bike, may or may not have "shims" on the back of them. If they do, you need to transfer these over to the new pads, as new pads do not come with them

Note that the rear disc brakes on this model are significantly more difficult, because the emergency brake is intimately associated with the rear caliper. You need special tools to do the rear. Front brake pads provide up to 70% of vehicle stopping power. In general, front brake pads wear out twice as fast as rear brake pads, 2 to 1. Disc brakes have a definite braking power advantage over drum style brakes and performance is not compromised as much when wet. Some disc brakes utilize cooling fins in-between the braking surfaces to maximize cooling efficiency. Replacing brake discs can vary depending on the make and model of car or truck, two wheel or four wheel drive. Always replace brake rotors with top quality or OEM (original equipment manufacturer) brake rotors, some less expensive brake rotors can squeak and not dissipate heat as well because of their inferior metal quality.
