The Red Digital Cinema Camera Company manufactures digital cinematography cameras and accessories for professional and cinematic use. The company was created and financed by Oakley founder Jim Jannard with the publicly expressed intent to re-invent the camera industry. Director Steven Soderbergh shot both parts of the movie Che, The Argentine and Guerrilla entirely with the Red One camera. Soderbergh is very enthusiastic about the camera, stating that "this is the camera I've been waiting for my whole career: jaw-dropping imagery recorded onboard a camera light enough to hold with one hand. Michael Bay wanted to see the RED Camera , so my friend who was the UPM on Transformers 2 arranged for me to show Michael Bay the camera which never happened due to scheduling. Instead I shot this test. The back story is this: On Bad Boys 1, Michael paid $25000 dollars out of his own pocket to do an explosion because production refused to pay. He fought for it and wrote a check which he had filmed as the slate in front of the shot ( which you can see on the behind the scenes of the first Bad Boys with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

WEVA News lands one of the first interviews with Ted Schilowitz, Leader of the Rebellion, Red Digital Cinema on the Red 4K camera at NAB 2006 for WEVA News Minute - (www.weva.com) by producer, Bruce Himmelblau of Blue Sky Video Productions (www.bsvp.com). Even though the camera was still in development, it captured the attention of filmmakers, cinematographers, editors and the media. The introductory price of $17500 (body only) for a 4K is amazing when compared to the professional tape based and tapeless cameras priced over $100000 that only shot 1920x1080. The camera is also designed to fit cinematography PL mount lenses as well as RED's own line of lenses. In 2006, RED had a working model that had the guts of the camera mounted in a very understated wooden box. Trivia: This video is the earliest interview on RED on the Internet.

Glidecam V-25 flying a Red Video camera. This demo shows a general rigging and balance. I know the audio and video sucks, I wanted to fly my cheap hand held video camera and video tape the demo with the RED, but the producer didn't buy it. The video covers images of the RED properly stripped down to accommodate the V-25. RED - @30Lbs with lens and matbox, battery mounted aft left matbox 19mm rod, rotate the battery underneath for lower center of gravity. The REDs center of balance for this configuration was just behind the lens. The REDs LCD mounts to stock V-25 LCD bracket with ¼-20 screw. The RED has a non standard video cable, ensure at least 5ft. Glidecam V-25 - Sled configuration was 2 on the lower post and only about a thumbs width from the top for the gimbal, this allowed for only one Anton Bauer battery to be used. Mounting to the top plate rotate the AB battery to the vertical position. Because the post was so low a few retakes where due to the bottom of the sled catching my calf, or the battery lock down wing nut catching lower pocket on my cargo shorts, use gaffing tape on sled side catch point of clothing. Dovetail plate to RED mounting plate, using the offset plate holes to accommodate RED battery location and using only the first 4 holes of the RED plate, allowing for ample aft balance, dovetail plate forward most of the holes exposed. Use 10 extension post. Crank the springs all the way up, and then ½ turn loose, or binding will occur, the arm rode @ 3-5 <b>...</b>

www.learningdslrvideo.com I took my girls to a skating rink in Boulder yesterday for a birthday party and when we got there, there was a short feature film being shot at the skating rink. I asked one of the crew what the project was and he said it was a short feature called Delirium, he said it was a psychological thriller that takes place mostly in Europe. They were using a RED camera, I don't know anything about that line of cameras but it looked like the Epic. I was amazed how uncomfortable the DP because her neck looked so uncomfortable. I guessing they rented the camera and didn't know how to outfit it properly. The main actor looked a little like Zac Efron, but my wife watched this footage and said it wasn't. Boy she seemed really uncomfortable with the camera. I looked at the monitor feed, and the footage coming off the RED look very nice. The natural light looked good at 4:30pm in the afternoon. I was amazed how fast they kept moving around the rink, it seemed very unscripted, like they were mostly trying to get B-roll. The director would yell out where they should be. "Director Kunz" was on the clapper board, but I could find anything about him online. Must be a small film, not worried about getting model releases for all the people in the video (extras). Really wish I had a 70-200mm 2.8 Boulder is not really known as a hot bed for film making, so it was fun running in to this production. Royalty free music by PremiumBeat.com
