Reenactment #56: Downfall (aka the "Hitler Bunker" scene)

This one was the absolute hardest video I've ever done. Hopefully, it was worth it. I know I kind of muddled the German language a little, but damn... it's a hard language. It's sounds like terrifying jibberish. This isn't my newest video, mother effers! Check out these links for two videos that aren't on YouTube yet! 1. Reenactment #18: Jurassic Park

The Eighteenth of my Re-Enactment Series. The only reason I did this video: Jeff "Freaking" Goldblum. My friends and I sat up all night doing Jeff Goldblum impersonations, ending each sentence with "and, and, if... and, well, thereitis." I have a hunch that when he gets a script, he adds a comma after 90% of the words in all of his lines. "I'm just saying that, uh, uh, life, uh, finds, a way." I concentrated on Jeff Goldblum... my impersonation of the other four characters may not be up to par. I have A Few Good Men in my possession... maybe this week.

Reenactment #17: Goodfellas

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE. The Seventeenth of my Re-enactment Series. If there ever was a scene that is widely known in cinema, it's this one. In this scene from Martin Scorcese's Goodfellas, Joe Pesci's character is telling an amusing anecdote to his friends. Ray Liotta's character says he's funny, to which Pesci's character takes the wrong way... This is my first video in which I used my new GL-2, a very nice digital camera. The video quality's oustanding. This was hard because I had to overlap a lot of sounds, mainly me laughing as three other people. Happy New Year, you stutterin' pricks, you.

Reenactment #26: Pulp Fiction [Request #1 of List #1]

The 26th of my Reenactment Series. Here it is. Finally. I didn't get it in before Monday... hence, I didn't leap. Looks like I'm stuck here... dammit. (Quantum Leap references out of the way...) I KNEW some of you guys would be disappointed. It's such a great scene, and you've been waiting a long time for it. I'm hearing the same complaints: Bangs were distracting, didn't like the hair, too comical and not serious. 1. I put the "Bangs" in because I thought they were hilarious. I giggled to myself in the glow of my laptop for 5 minutes making that "Bang" montage in the end. 2. I like how you guys think the beard was distracting, and yet the floral quilt hanging in the background, the continuity errors, and even the accidental inclusion of my laptop in one of the takes weren't distracting at all. Again, I just thought the beard was funny. 3. I could never pull off Samuel L. Jackson. He's too badass, especially in this scene. When I can't get someone's mannerisms, I go for a comic portrayal to redeem myself. Sometimes it works and you guys never notice. Other times... All in all, I was sort of happy with this. It may not be a milestone for what probably will be my last reenactment, but I didn't expect it to. It's hard to say whether or not I'll do anymore reenactments. I want to move on... there are a lot of things happening in the next few months for me, and I have to concentrate on them. That isn't to say I won't be uploading any more videos, but they may be few and far <b>...</b>

Reenactment #14: The Big Lebowski

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE The Fourteenth of my Re-enactment series. I can't stress "strong language" enough. The Big Lebowski is on the list of top movies in which the F-word is used most frequently. In this scene, Walter and The Dude are going bowling as usual. When someone on the other team steps "OVER THE LINE," Walter calls him on it and pulls a gun. I just think this scene is hilarious; John Goodman's character adds so much to the movie. Understandably, this movie is not everyone's cup of tea. For those of you who haven't seen this movie, you may not get it or think it's funny. This is a cult classic for a reason, I guess. PS - Wtf, Youtube? After you did some "maintenance," my sound is lagging a bit... dammit. PPS - Still working on Dogma.

Reenactment #23: Full Metal Jacket [Request #3 of List #1]

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE The 23rd of my Re-Enactment Series. A few things: 1. No, I did not lip sync, I simply added reverb to the dialogue. The audio is a bit off thanks to the video being compressed onto Youtube. I wouldn't go Milli Vanilli on you. 2. Yes, I know I failed to put in the "Sir-yes-sirs" in the beginning, simply because I didn't feel like waiting an extra hour to re-do that an export it for a fifth time. Use your imagination. In this scene from Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, new recruits for Vietnam are being lectured on their first day by Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, played by former real-life drill instructor R. Lee Ermey. It's kind of a shame... the first 45 minutes of this film is amazing. The scenes that actually take place in Vietnam kind of drag. Still, Kubrick was awesome. Good choice, guys. This is an awesome scene... ugh. The Reservoir Dogs one is even longer... you guys are making me work.

WARNING: BRIEF, STRONG LANGUAGE The Sixth of my Re-enactment series. In this scene from The Shining, Jack is writing his book when he is interrupted by his wife... he vents his frustration. This is the first and only request I've taken, and I don't plan to take any more at risk of becoming a gimmick... my worst fear is reaching the level of the "Numa-Numa" guy. Reenactment #24: Pan's Labyrinth

The 24th of my Reenactment Series. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about Reservoir Dogs. I just thought this was too good not to do. Very short, but sweet. I don't speak Spanish, btw. It took a million times going over the Spanish subtitles in this video to get it right. In this scene from Pan's Labyrinth, a young girl has been given three tasks to do by a mysterious faun. During the second task, she broke one of the rules, and the faun gets pissed. I can't really explain the plot very well, you have to see this. I figured most of you have since this is pretty much the most mainstream foreign film. It won three Academy Awards... it deserves them too.

Reenactment #5: Star Trek: First Contact

The Fifth of my Re-enactment series. I'm not a trekkie, but I do think Star Trek: The Next Generation is a kick-ass show, rivaled only by its kick-ass movies (with the exception of the last one...). First Contact is a good example. In this scene, a woman from the 21st century is on board the Enterprise, which is slowly being overtaken by a race of aliens known as the "Borg." Captain Jean-Luc Picard does not want to self-destuct his ship, even though it is the only way to defeat the Borg once and for all. The woman attempts to talk Picard into doing it. This will only be funny if you have seen this movie. If not, sit back and enjoy my shitty impersonation of Patrick Stewart. Notice that I didn't even attempt to look like a woman for the other part. Just use your imagination. Resources: a very nice red turtleneck Note: That's a Star Trek: First Contact hat lying on Picard's desk. Thought I'd throw that in there.

150th Battle Of Bull Run Reenactment - Manassas, Virginia

150th Battle Of Bull Run Reenactment - Manassas, Virginia Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War 2011-2015 Also see: PrinceWilliamCounty.com The First Battle of Bull Run, also known as the First Battle of Manassas (the name used by Confederate forces), was fought on July 21, 1861, in Prince William County, Virginia, near the City of Manassas. It was the first major land battle of the American Civil War. Just months after the start of the war at Fort Sumter, the Northern public clamored for a march against the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia, which could bring an early end to the war. Yielding to this political pressure, unseasoned Union Army troops under Brig. Gen. Irvin McDowell advanced across Bull Run against the equally unseasoned Confederate Army under Brig. Gen. PGT Beauregard near Manassas Junction. McDowell's ambitious plan for a surprise flank attack against the Confederate left was not well executed by his inexperienced officers and men, but the Confederates, who had been planning to attack the Union left flank, found themselves at an initial disadvantage. Confederate reinforcements under the command of Brig. Gen. Joseph E. Johnston arrived from the Shenandoah Valley by railroad and the course of the battle changed. A brigade of Virginians under a relatively unknown colonel from the Virginia Military Institute, Thomas J. Jackson, stood their ground and Jackson received his famous nickname, "Stonewall Jackson". Dark age re-enactment with commentary

Shot some years ago on silent Super-8mm film, this footage shows three fights over the same ground, followed by a different fight on a steep slope. The fighters are using full-weight iron weapons (largely mild steel). Helmets and gloves are worn for safety, but the main things that keep people safe are training are common sense. These are not choreographed fights. These people are genuinely trying to hit each other, and the outcomes of the fights are in doubt until the end. The combat system was pretty simple. A hit to an arm or leg rendered it useless (drop weapon, fall over). A hit to the torso was a kill. Hands, feet, and heads were not legal targets. The man taking the hit decided whether the hit was good, not the man dishing it out. Any armour worn was for decoration, and had no function in the combat system. The early stages of each fight were usually slow, with each shieldwall trying to find a way around or through the other, trying to create gaps by manoeuvre or inflicting casualties. When one side's formation became untenable, the fight would very suddenly change nature and everyone on both sides would drop spears and swap to shorter weapons as quickly as possible. Many people got killed during the changeover. There was seldom time to throw a spear - dropping it was much quicker (although throwing spears was also considered too dangerous). With as few as three people, it was worth forming a line and using spears at first. Once an opponent had closed with a <b>...</b>

Reenactment #15: Dogma

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE The Fifthteenth of my Re-enactment series. Presenting: a scene from one of the most controversial movies about Christianity ever made. Even before Clerks, Kevin Smith began writing this movie. At the time, the working title was "God." The entire film is Kevin Smith's attempt to get through a crisis of faith he was having. Every word uttered by every character, especially by Damon and Affleck in this scene, comes from questions that Smith asked himself regarding his faith. In this scene, Bartlbey and Loki, two angels sent to Earth as punishment, have a conversation in a car garage. Bartlbey has an "epiphany," and he decides to try and defy God's will and, with the help of a loophole in Catholic dogma, try and get back into heaven. Loki, played by Damon, feels that something is wrong and points out that he sounds just like Lucifer. I did a few things I haven't done before to make this video more like the original... - Got my haircut in between characters - Did nearly the entire video handheld - Added a "Cathedral" echo to make it seem more like a parking garage - Mirrored about 90% of the video to make it similar to the original setting In switching hands in the end, I think I violated the 180 degree rule... but I think it worked out. I'm a Christian myself, and even if you don't like the movie, you have to at least appreciate the genius dialogue of Kevin Smith. He raises so many questions regarding Christianity, and has created a great movie that's <b>...</b>

This year, I decided to go even bigger than just the battle itself and attempt to explain why these nations are fighting one another. This is where the soundbites come in. At the deepest root of German expansion is anger - anger for a humiliated and collapsed Germany in the wake of WWI. This is why Hitler is speaking of financial collapse at the video's beginning, and also why I twice put in soundbites emphasizing November 1918 - when Germany surrendered. Many Germans felt they had been betrayed by their leadership, and felt they could've continued and ultimately won the war. And now here <b>...</b>

Reenactment #19: A Few Good Men

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE The Ninteenth of my Re-Enactment Series. This scene was asked for so many times, I had to do it. Just in time for Valentine's Day, this pivotal scene from the film A Few Good Men boasts THE catchphrase of the early 90s: "You can't handle the truth!" I feel like I should have winked at the camera after saying that line. The thing is, everyone focuses on that line but seems to ignore the profound monologue that follows. I took out every other character in this scene, so it's just Cruise and Nicholson. This scene kicked my ass... took like three days to edit. Because the expectations were kind of high for this one, some of you may not find it up to par. I could have put an extra few hours into this and played the Judge, maybe add sound background dialogue that's missing... keep in mind: I need sleep too.
