CraftSanity on TV: Refashioning T-Shirts
Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood of craftsanity.com appeared on WZZM's "Take 5 & Company" to show how to cut up T-Shirts into new fashions. Megan Nicolay is teaching T-Shirt refashioning workshops from 10 am-12:30 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm Aug. 27, 2009 at West Side Garage Store, 351 Summer Ave. NW, in Grand Rapids, Mich. The $20 fee includes a copy of Generation T: Beyond Fashion book, a T-shirt and pair of scissors. Call 451-4215 ext. 113 to sign up.

DIY: Necklace Refashion- Chain Knot Necklace
Inspired by: www.forever21.com You'll need: 4-6 2ft. long chains, 2 jump rings, and pliers (all can be found in a craft store like AC Moore or Michaels) Start by separating the chains evenly and twisting them together. Repeat on the other side. Tie a knot. We used a double chain knot, which turned out pretty secure. If you want to know how, here's a good tutorial: www.youtube.com Secure a link from the knot to a link on the twisted chains using a jump ring and pliers. Repeat with the other ring. Do it tightly. The Newburyport, MA community and Long Way Home produced a fashion show in October 2011. The show featured 15 different designers who created 18 different fashions made from alternative materials such as plastic bags, bicycle tire tubes, paint chips and bottle caps. The show brought awareness to the problem of too much waste on the planet and the need to create new from old just as nature does every day.
