Man's Right to know tells the story of Wilhelm Reich's life & discoveries, and ultimate demise. He was able to document a cosmic life energy he called Orgone. Amongst his discoveries were Orgone energy was the Orgone energy accumulator that was used to reverse cancer. And also a device called the cloudbuster which could create or disperse clouds and create rain. He was thrown in jail after the FDA concluded he was a quack. Wilhelm Reich, right before the US government burned all of his books and papers, destroyed his orgone accumulators, and threw him in prison where he died eight months later in 1957. One of Sigmund Freud's more promising students Wilhiem Reich was one of the most revolutionary thinkers of the 20th century. His research that ranged from sexual energy to a machine that could alter weather were so revolutionary that they had to be supressed. This film offers a biographical sketch. Program notes: In the introduction to Gulag: A History, historian Anne Appelbaum observes a brisk tourist trade in Soviet paraphernalia springing up on Prague's Charles River Bridge in the immediate wake of the collapse of the Soviet monolith. Western tourists who would be sickened by the thought of wearing a swastika snapped up pins, hats and T-shirt emblazoned with the hammer and sickle. "It was a minor observation", she writes, "but sometimes it is through just such minor observations that a cultural mood is best observed. For here, the lesson could not have been clearer: while the symbol of one mass murder fills us with horror, the symbol of another mass murder makes us laugh." The iconic Kalinka is not a Russian folk song. It was composed in 1860 by composer and folklorist Ivan Petrovich Larionov, and can be located squarely in the tradition of Russian musical nationalism, in which elements of Russian folklore - actual and imagined - were adapted and adopted into Russian art and popular music.
