Papantonio: The Worst Republican Party in History

The modern incarnation of the GOP bears virtually no resemblance to the party that produced presidents like Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower. In fact, even Ronald Reagan would have been considered a moderate by the standards of today's Republican Party. With every new Tea Party member that gets elected to Congress, the Party is forced to shift their positions further and further to the right to appeal to their fringe base, leaving independents and moderates with only one alternative. Mike Papantonio discusses the radical shift in Republican ideology with Jesse LaGreca, a member of the Occupy Movement, and best-selling author and President of Libertas, LLC Cliff Schecter.

The PROUD history of the Republican Party

The Republican Party formed by abolitionists in 1854 take bold steps in securing freedoms for former slaves until the Democrats regain control of Congress. Once in control of Congress and many of the southern state governments the Democrats once again stripped away the rights African Americans wouldn't again fully achieve until the civil rights movement of the 1960's. - In 1865, Congressional Republicans unanimously backed the 13th Amendment, which made slavery unconstitutional. Among Democrats, 63 percent of senators and 78 percent of House members voted: "No." - In 1866, 94 percent of GOP senators and 96 percent of GOP House members approved the 14th Amendment, guaranteeing all Americans equal protection of the law. Every congressional Democrat voted: "No." - February 28, 1871: The GOP Congress passed the Enforcement Act, giving black voters federal protection. - February 8, 1894: Democratic President Grover Cleveland and a Democratic Congress repealed the GOP's Enforcement Act, denying black voters federal protection. - October 16, 1901: GOP President Theodore Roosevelt invited to the White House as its first black dinner guest Republican educator Booker T. Washington. - January 26, 1922: The US House adopted Rep. Leonidas Dyer's (R., Mo.) bill making lynching a federal crime. Filibustering Senate Democrats killed the measure. - Until 1935, every black federal legislator was Republican. Republican Party Values

Since 2003, the number of high ranking Republican officials, Governors, and Congressmen who have been brought up on serious criminal charges has been staggering. This video is a short summery of the most high-profile Republicans that have been convicted and investigated. At the very least it shows Republicans as a party of hypocrites who flagrantly disregard the law. At the most, it reveals the modern GOP as a political organization rotting from the top down.

GOP primary debate audiences embarrass Republican Party

www.nma.tv The GOP primary debates give the candidates a chance to become known to the public. The forums have revealed much about the Republican base as well. For the GOP's extreme, it seems there is no room for nuance between policy and principle. Will the audience outbursts alienate the rest of America? In a way, the insensitive and intolerant audience outbursts are just an amplification of the insensitive and intolerant positions of the candidates. Yet at least one GOP candidate has held his ground. His positions might not be popular with the base, but they are sure to look good with a wider constituency. Yet one wonders is there any limit to what the GOP primary debate audience will cheer or boo? The GOP hope to take America forward. But as the candidates pander to their base, they risk making the Republicans look like a party of the past.

Jim DeMint: Why Republicans Must Become More Libertarian

"The new debate in the Republican party needs to be between conservatives and libertarians," says Sen. Jim DeMint (RS.C.). "A lot of the libertarian ideas that Ron Paul is talking about...should not be alien to any Republican." Yet right after the 2010 midterm elections, the influential Tea Party favorite proclaimed that "you can't be a fiscal conservative and not be a social conservative," a comment that was widely viewed as a slap at libertarians. And South Carolina's junior senator is also a staunch pro-lifer, has favored a constitutional ban on flag burning, and is on the record saying that gays shouldn't be allowed to teach at public schools. More recently, DeMint has been leaning libertarian. His new book, Now or Never: Saving America from Economic Collapse, is a warning to the nation that we need radical spending cuts (including putting defense spending on the table) or else face economic oblivion. And he was instrumental in getting Tea Party Republicans elected in 2010, including the most libertarian member of the caucus, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who also wrote the foreword to DeMint's book.Reason's Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch sat down with DeMint for a wide-ranging discussion about fiscal vs. social conservatism, cutting spending, the GOP presidential nomination, whether the Tea Party still matters, and much more. Approximately 29 minutes. Shot by Meredith Bragg and Jim Epstein; edited by Epstein. Go to Reason.tv for downloadable versions and subscribe to Reason ...

Blue Republicans are people who have never before thought of joining the Republican party, but are going to do so for one year to ensure that Ron Paul wins the Republican nomination for President in 2012. Many of us previously identified as Democrats or Independents and/or supported Obama in 2008. We believe that on issues that matter most -- war vs. peace (Iraq, Yemen etc.), civil liberties (Patriot Act etc.), and crony corporatism (bailouts etc.) -- Obama has pursued a course similar to that of George Bush. States are changing their systems all the time so ALWAYS CHECK YOUR OWN STATE INFORMATION to make sure you do what you need to do to make Ron Paul the Republican nominee for President
