Sindh Senior Minister Zulfiqar Mirza on Sunday announced his resignation from the government during an emotional press briefing at the Karachi press Club. Mirza announced his resignation from the Sindh Assembly, his post as Sindh senior minister and as senior vice-president of the Pakistan People Party (PPP). He added that his earlier ministry post had been changed to Sindh senior minister due to political blackmail. Deploring conditions in Karachi, Mirza said that he would have brought peace to Karachi within 15 days if he had been given a free hand. Mirza said after his resignation he would work on his own to deliver justice to the people of Karachi and Sindh. Movement (MQM) has decided to quit from the Pakistan People's Party led governments in centre and Sindh, senior MQM leader Farooq Sattar told media. Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan would also quit from the office of Governor Sindh, he said. The governor has sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari. The MQM leadership and workers have reached the conclusion it is difficult to go along with the Pakistan People's Party, keeping in view its democratic and dictatorial attitude," he said. "The PPP was unwilling to mend its ways leaving us with no option but to quit the coalition government," Sattar said, adding that MQM lawmakers in federal and provincial assemblies would sit on opposition benches. 'MQM's ministers were powerless and not allowed to work independently.' Farooq Sattar said issues were raised in core committees with the PPP leadership on regular basis but to no avail. Rehman Malik told MQM to stay away from the Azad Jammu and Kashmir assembly's Karachi seat and even threatened to postpone elections, MQM leader said.
