Remember when Soul Music had artists who made songs so beautiful you would shed tears. Well here is one for your heart , soul and mind when Black Artists made music so deep that the earth would spin on it's axis. "The Closer I Get to You" is a song performed originally during 1978 by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. The song was written by keyboardist James Mtume and guitarist Reggie Lucas, two former members of Miles Davis' band who were members of Flack's band at the time. Released from Flack's album, Blue Lights in the Basement, it became a major crossover hit. It scored two weeks as number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart in April, 1978, and also peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. [1]. It was eventually certified gold. I'm going to be painting a series of Gypsy Vanner Horses this year and here is the first one! This is the first time I have painted a palomino and it was a lot of fun. From her 1969 album "First Take" en.wikipedia.org "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by Ewan MacColl for his wife Peggy Seeger. It was popularized by Roberta Flack and became a breakout hit for the singer after it appeared in the 1971 Clint Eastward film Play Misty for Me. Though the song first appeared on Flack's 1969 album First Take, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year three years later.
