Für Elise by Ludwig Van Beethoven played on glass harp by Robert Tiso グラスハープThe score was not published until 1867, 40 years after the composer's death. The discoverer of the piece, Ludwig Nohl, affirmed that the original autographed manuscript was dated 27 April. This manuscript has been lost. It is not certain who "Elise" was. Max Unger suggested that Ludwig Nohl may have transcribed the title incorrectly and the original work may have been named "Für Therese", a reference to Therese Malfatti von Rohrenbach zu Dezza (1792--1851). She was a friend and student of Beethoven's to whom he proposed in 1810, though she turned him down to marry the Austrian nobleman and state official Wilhelm von Droßdik in 1816. According to a recent study by Klaus Martin Kopitz, there is flimsy evidence that the piece was written for the German soprano singer Elisabeth Röckel (1793--1883), later the wife of Johann Nepomuk Hummel. "Elise", as she was called by a parish priest (she always called herself "Betty"), had been a friend of Beethoven's since 1808. In the meantime it has been proven that Rudolf Schachner, who in 1851 inherited Therese von Droßdik's musical scores, was a relative of Babette Bredl who in 1865 let Nohl copy the autograph in her possession. Thus Kopitz's hypothesis is definitely refuted. The pianist and musicologist Luca Chiantore argued in his doctoral thesis and his recent book "Beethoven al piano" that Beethoven might not have been the person who gave the piece <b>...</b>

Ave Maria by Franz Schubert played on glass harp by Robert Tiso. This song is No. 6 of Schubert's Liederzyklus vom Fräulein vom See (Song-cycle from 'The Lady of the Lake'), composed in 1825. It is listed as Ellens Gesang. III. Hymne an die Jungfrau (Ellen's song, III. Hymn to the Virgin), and it is often referred to as Elles dritter Gesang (Ellen's third song). The original source is The Lady of the Lake by Sir Walter Scott ( 1771-1832), in the German translation (published 1819) by Adam Storck (1780-1822) in 1819 (the name Adam Storck is a pseudonym for Philipp Adam). The seven songs that form the song-cycle were published in 1826 as Schubert's Op. 52, with both Storck's German texts and the original English texts by Scott, under the title Sieben Gesange aus Walter Scotts Fräulein vom See (Seven Songs from Walter Scott's Lady of the Lake). Often sung in Latin with an adaptation of the Roman Catholic Ave Maria text, this song is often referred to as "Schubert's Ave Maria", popular as both a wedding song and a funeral song.

Musical moment No. 3 in F minor by Franz Schubert, played on glass harp (musical glasses) by Robert Tiso. This tune was used in Federico Fellini's film "e la nave va". Two old musicians play the piece on many wine glasses, the real track was recorded probably by Bruno Hoffman and arranged for the glass harp by Nino Rota. グラスハープMomento musicale n° 3 in fa minore di Franz Schubert suonato al cristallofono (bicchieri musicali) da Robert Tiso. Questo brano fu scelto da Nino Rota e da Federico Fellini per una scena del film "e la nave va" in cui i protagonisti lo suonano con un insieme di bicchieri, bottiglie e altri oggotti con cui il tavolo è apparecchiato. Sicuramente la traccia audio è stata registrata separatamente e con tutta probabilità il suonatore di bicchieri era il tedesco Bruno Hoffman che ha eseguito il brano in modo impeccabile.

The Blue Danube Waltz on glass harp
The Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss II played on glass harp by Robert Tiso. The Blue Danube is the common English title of An der schönen blauen Donau, Op. 314 (German for On the Beautiful Blue Danube), a waltz by the Austrian composer Johann Strauss II, composed in 1866. Originally performed 13 February 1867 at a concert of the Wiener Männergesangsverein (Vienna Men's Choral Association), it has been one of the most consistently popular pieces of music in the classical repertoire. Its initial performance was only a mild success however and Strauss is reputed to have said "The devil take the waltz, my only regret is for the coda—I wish that had been a success!" After the original music was written, the words were added by the Choral Association's poet, Joseph Weyl.[1] Strauss later added more music, and Weyl needed to change some of the words.[2] Strauss adapted it into a purely orchestral version for the World's Fair in Paris that same year, and it became a great success in this form. The instrumental version is by far the most commonly performed today. An alternate text by Franz von Gernerth, Donau so blau (Danube so blue), is also used on occasion. The sentimental Viennese connotations of the piece have made it into a sort of unofficial Austrian national anthem. It is a traditional encore piece at the annual Vienna New Year's Concert. In this video you can see how to tune a glass harp from the beginning to the end. It takes less than 10 minutes. Anybody can do it even if they are not musicians, all you need is a chromatic tuner with built in microphone, this instrument will tell you if the pitch is too high or low, so all you do is adjust the water level until the pitch is correct. Excuse the audio quality, I couldn't bother setting up the studio for this video. I hope you found it interesting or useful.
