Rossiya/Pulkovo Tupolev TU 154-M Noisy Takeoff at Düsseldorf Airport in 2006

Not too many years ago the TU-154 was a daily visitor in Düsseldorf. I remember the times when we had the apron filled with 5 or more TU5 in the early mornings of summer-most of them were owned by Air Via Bulgarian Airlines (they now operate an A320 fleet), Bulgarian Air Charter (BUC) (they now operate MD80's), and Aeroflot (they are currently phasing out their last Tu5's I believe). Throughout the day the Air Via TU5's would return to do another run to Bulgaria (Varna, Bourgas and Sofia if I remember right), Aeroflot would send at least one more TU5 on one of their three daily flights from Düsseldorf to Moscow Sheremetyevo, Sibir Airlines had a daily afternoon service from Düsseldorf to Moscow-Domodedovo and Pulkovo/Rossiya had two daily flights to St Petersburg and one to Moscow-Vnukovo-all of them were operated by TU-154! In addition to that Aeroflot-Don and Ural Airlines had a weekly flight on Sundays during the Summer to Rostov and Jekaterinburg using the Tu-154. a Pulkovo TU 154M is taking off to St Petersburg. Nowadays there is not a single scheduled Tu5 service left in Düsseldorf, all the mentioned airlines replaced their TU5 services with B737 and Airbus A32X. Ural Airlines and Donavia discontinued their weekly flights into Düsseldorf in the summer of 2008 I really hope to see them again someday. I really miss the TU5's with their unique wing and tail shapes. The sound was unmistakable and loud. The last TU5 flight in Düsseldorf was a Rossiya Flight to St ...

Tupolev Tu-114 Rossiya (1959)

Tupolev Tu-114 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org The Tupolev Tu-114 Rossiya (Russian: Tyполев Тy-114 Poccия) (NATO reporting name Cleat) is a turboprop-powered long-range airliner designed by the Tupolev design bureau and built in the USSR from May 1955. The aircraft was the largest and fastest passenger plane at that time and also had the longest range (10900 km (6800 mi)). It continues to hold the official title of fastest propeller-driven aircraft since 1960. Due to its swept wing and powerplant design, the Tu-114 was able to travel at speeds typical of modern jetliners (880 km/h (550 mph)). Able to accommodate 224 passengers, a more usual number in Aeroflot service was 170 provided with sleeping berths and a dining lounge. In 14 years of civilian service, the Tu-114 was noted for its very high level of safety and reliability, and it carried over six million passengers before being replaced by the jet-powered Ilyushin Il-62. Some 32 aircraft were built at the Kuibyshev aviation plant (№18) in the early 1960s. Tupolev TU-114 'Rossiya'

The fastest turboprop ever! A record of 877 Km/hr still stands! Never involved in accidents it was a save plane. The movie starts with some music, but soon the aircraft takes over. Listen to the sound of the four Kuznetsov's NK-12, driving eight-bladed, contra rotating propellers, 5.6 meters in diameter on the NK-12MV and even 6.2 meters on the NK-12MA!

A pretty song from one of the folk choirs is combined with the artwork of Zinaida Serebyakova. She is my favourite artist... may her memory be eternal! She painted all the Russian people (both peasants and nobles) with honesty and love. There were (and are) few like her.
