It's taken only 20 years for the largest waterway in Indonesia's West Java to become a river of rubbish. Choked by domestic and industrial waste, the Citarum is in crisis. What used to be a vital source of fresh water and fish is now a dumping ground and scavenging site. Al Jazeera's Marga Ortigas traveled to West Java province to meet the people living by the river.

The demand for hot showers and hot food is a huge strain on the forests, and is leading to deforestation and soil erosion. Another serious side-effect is the extensive littering of a vast area. Trekkers not only see spectacular scenery, they see mountains of rubbish along the tracks and at Everest base camps.

From just this mornings walk I took all these photos showing just how bad our street and creek pollution issue really is. No one seems to care anymore and rubbish is always littering our waterways which then ends up in the sea. Fish die on a regular basis to pollution in our creeks and still nothing gets done by the local Coffs Harbour Council. They could easily build a low cost rubbish trap which would at least stop the rubbish from floating out to sea. They could also make changes to the way takeaway food places sell their food in ways to limit the rubbish output. Food places need to expand their outdoor eating options and do away with supplying the takeaway. Supplying resusable plates and drink containers would alone save much on our local environment. People don't do the right thing so things need to change in the fast food industry to prevent this type of constant pollution. Photos and original songs by John Boom. Here's the word of Top Gear: 'Someone's been interfering with ponies. Luckily, they're not real ones -- this is a worryingly well-executed video mashup of the My Little Pony cartoon and Top Gear. It is deeply, deeply odd. Jeremy's morphed into Rarity, Hammond's Fluttershy, James is Pinkie Pie and the Stig's Twilight Sparkle. Which, coincidentally, is what they call each other in the office. I kind of burned myself out on the title sequence for this one - it took me nine hours to finish and about ten minutes to render, because it's quite effects-heavy.
