I am a big fan of the Hunger Games books and am excited for the film from Lionsgate. This was done in hopes that the actors would get a chance to audition for the film. Danielle Chuchran was able to audition for Gary Ross. Congratulations to Jennifer Lawrence and Amandla Stenberg on landing the roles. I know that Rue is described as being dark skinned in the book, but I wanted to show Savanna's acting. I think she would make a good Prim though. The song at the beginning is Wretches and Kings by Linkin Park. The song at the end is Iridescent by Linkin Park. I didn't put the sound of the cannon when Rue died because I cut out all background sounds and sound effects at that point and was just playing music only. I have heard alot of different versions of Rue's Lullaby and most of them are great. I chose to go with a soft, sweet piano and strings with a military sounding percussion because I thought it fit the mood of the scene when she was being carried away. At least in my mind it fit. Dans les rues d'Antibes Climax Jazz Band 1996 Sidney Bechet composed this wonderful tune "Dans les rues d'Antibes" in the mid fifties when he lived in France. I have been in love with this tune since the early seventies and after we had Jim Buchmann, who joined our Toronto Climax Jazz Band in 1976 we have recorded this tune several times. Jim is an excellent soprano sax player and plays the saxello, which is a slightly curved soprano sax built in 1930 by the King instrument family and later replaced by the more mellow sounding fully curved sopsax that looks like a miniature alto sax. Then some 20 years later, just before I left the band to move to British Columbia we played a series of concerts in Japan. In our Climax band we had for these concerts a majority of Dutch musicians in the band. Yes folks, the Dutch can do it. 4 Dutchmen, 2 Brits, a Canadian and an American! Pieter Meijers played fantastic soprano sax, on the carillon in the tower Jacques Maassen pumped out some chording, my friend since kindergarden ( kleuterschool ) Jacques ( now Jack) Vincken played banjo (and in this tune a very nice solo as well) and I played cornet. For these concerts I was able to borrow a goldplated Getzen cornet from my collector friend Dick Luker. Our regular announcer/bassplayer Chis Daniels ( a Brit) would always announce myself first and then mention that one Dutchman in a band is more than enough following the announcement of banjoist Jack Vincken. About ten years ago when I left the Climax Jazz Band to move to Canada's westcoast the father of Jamie Aug, our drummer, gave me a videotape which he called Jazz potpourri. George Aug often came to our gigs and taped many perfmances. It ended up on a shelf in one of my video cabinets. Just now I found a clip I like to share with my dear youtube and dailymotion friends. In 1984 our band had an opportunity to play a few tunes with famous trumpetplayer Humphrey Lyttleton. It was during a jazz weekend in Toronto and Humph was there as a special guest. We didn't even know Humph would come and perform with us until the beginning of our set. I choose Dans les Rue d'Antibes hoping and being pretty certain Humph would know it. Humph even announces it in good French. Even though the recording quality is limited ( a single VHS camera ) the atmosphere is there and it was a once in a lifetime memory and opportunity to play with Humph and have it filmed as well. During the tune Humph discusses the possibility to do a double clarinet solo and both Mick and Humph play the final part of the tune on clarinets. In the Climax Jazz Band: Bob Erwig cornet, Mick Lewis clarinet, Len Gosling trombone, Jack Vincken banjo, Chris Daniels bass and Max Littlejohns drums. ps When I was 15 one of my first 78's was Humph's band with On a Treasure Island and Tom Cat Blues on the flip side.

Depuis 1990 les musiciens d'Akiyo animent la rue Piétonne le samedi matin de 10h jusqu'à 15 h de l'après-midi.
