Remembering Ruffian Part 1: Perfection
Part 1: Perfection This is the first part of my over 20 minutes long video about the legendary filly Ruffian. It tells the story of Ruffians life from the beginning at Claiborne Farms, through to her first and second season, ending with her Filly Triple Crown victory and a perfect record. Notes for this part: The footage of the young filly galloping through a field obviously isnt Ruffian. It is in fact footage from Black Beauty. I was watching it and suddenly realised how much Ruffian and the filly (yes, filly, I know Black Beauty is a stallion but look closely) looked alike and I thought it was a nice addition. Actually, it is one of the first parts to be added to the video and it survived every edit. I dont have any footage of Ruffians maiden race in this video. I know footage does exist, but it is of very poor quality. I decided not to add it to this video. The video of the Astoria Stakes isnt very good quality and doesnt have any audio. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to find better footage. It can be watched in high quality if you like.

I hadn't planned on doing a Ruffian video, since member carlykaiser already did one to this song of mine. However, while researching Ruffian as a possible song subject, I collected a lot of video clips, and it would seem a waste not to use them. This is a slightly shorter version of the song as well, since it has fewer instrumental breaks.

A video about the late great Ruffian, with all her winning races, and a little extra footage to the song "August's Rhapsody" www.HorseRaceGame.com For those who don't know, and I have in fact gotten many people asking me about her, Ruffian was a phenomenal filly. Born in 1972, she raced in 1974 and 1975. She finished her two year old year undefeated. Many asked her trainer, Frank Whiteley, if he was planning on running her in the Derby in 1975. He said no, he wanted her to race boys as a four year old. The winner of the 1975 Derby was Foolish Pleasure But, as a three year old she still accomplished an amazing feat, she won the Filly Triple Crown (some call it the Triple Tiara.) Eventually a race was proposed, a race between Foolish Pleasure, and the Preakness winner Master Derby. Eventually, the owners of Master Derby tagged out. Then it was a match race between the phoneme Ruffian, and the Derby winner Foolish Pleasure. This race got the public very interested. Being the 1970's, and the feminist group at a high, a girls vs. boy race was great. A girl, Billie Jean King, had already beat Bobby Riggs in a tennis match. So a filly vs. colt race was very anticipated. In all her past performances, Ruffian was always in front. And she was also always in front in the Match Race, until she broke her leg. She was sent into surgery to save her, but while waking up she thrashed and broke her other leg. The morning after the Match Race, Americans were shocked by the headline on all <b>...</b>

Ruffian's Last Race
i have Ruffian. But that film makes me sad. It's based on a true story about a fillie named Ruffian who was one of the best race horses, she was amazing! But in a race against Foolish Pleasure she broke her leg and therefore broke down. They tried to help her and fix her wounded leg but poor Ruffian was traumatized and started to panic, breaking her other leg. She had to be put down =/ The only race she ever lost was the race where she lost her life... So that is what this video is about, that final race. The footage is from Ruffian the film, 2007, the commentry is from the actual race. It starts off pretty gentle but then it has a lot of black flashes so don't watch if you have epileptic fits or seizures. i hope you like it even though it is quite emotional

Ruffian Tribute - For the best race horse ever!
READ THE DESCRIPTION!!!! I FINALLY MADE IT!!! And even my Movie Maker stopped hating me^^ well, at least for now... -_-* This video is for Ruffian, and it tells a part of her story. Ruffian was a dark brown, almost black filly who reached the young age of 3 years. She won her first reace by 15 lenghs in front of the rest and broke a record. She won 10 races, records included (also colts records). After winning the Filly Triple Crown (now called Triple Tiara, she was still unbeaten) everyone was screaming for a Match Race between her and Foolish Pleasure, he also won all his races except 1. In the end, Ruffian hit the gate with her front leg quite hard. After that she took the lead by a half length, suddenly the leg she hit by the gate broke, but she kept running until she was running on a bone, her hoof hanging on some skin. Ruffian had no chance from the beginning on, it would be way more human to put her down on the track. But the problem was that she broke down on national TV; if they wouldn´t at least bring her to the vet the people would have said that it was able to rescue her and blame the owners for nothing. Foolish Pleasure had to "win" the "race" on his own. He became #97 of the top 100 US thoroughbred champions of the 20th century (Ruffian is on #35), and became 22 years old, he died in 1994 because of developed severe laminitis in all four feet. Despite all treatment efforts he had be euthanized. (For all Pleasure hater: YES, severe laminitis is quite painful <b>...</b>

Remembering Ruffian Part 2: The Match Race
Part 2: The Match Race and its aftermath This is the second part of my over 20 minutes long video about the legendary filly Ruffian. This part tells the story of the Match Race with colt Foolish Pleasure on July 6th, 1975 at Belmont Park, Ruffians breakdown in that race and its aftermath. Notes for this part: There is a lot of footage of varying quality edited together in the pre-Match race sequence. I realise this can be a little awkward to watch, but I wanted to include as much original footage as possible. I have not (as before in my other Ruffian videos) added footage of Ruffians breakdown. I have seen it several times and that was quite enough. I do use the audio from the race caller and show photos of the filly which could be disturbing, as in some of these the pain and panic of the filly are obvious. However sad or distressing this may be to some people, these images are a part of Ruffians life and without them the story isnt complete.

Hey... so I watched this movie and well I think I cried like 90% of it... I did not include the break down in this video since I think it would be nice to remember her like this! For the people who havent watched the movie this is what happened (Spoiler): Ruffian earned the nickname "Queen of the Fillies" after being voted the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Two-Year-Old Filly in 1974 and winning the Filly Triple Crown in 1975. Ruffian was undefeated in her first ten races. She won her maiden race in record time and by 15 lengths. She was on lead at every point of call in every race she ever ran. She set a new stakes record in each of the eight stakes races which she won. She had also equaled two track records. If she didn't set track or stakes record, she equaled them. Ruffian's eleventh race was run at Belmont Park on July 6, 1975. It was a match race between Ruffian and that year's Kentucky Derby winner, Foolish Pleasure. The "equine battle of the sexes" was heavily anticipated and attended by more than 50000 spectators, with an estimated television audience of 18 million. As she left the starting gate she hit her shoulder hard, straightened herself, and they were running. The first quarter-mile (402 m) was run in a blazing 22 1/5 seconds, with Ruffian ahead by a nose. Little more than 1 furlong (201 m) later, Ruffian was in front by half a length when both sesamoid bones in her right foreleg snapped. Vasquez tried to pull her up, but the filly wouldn't stop.
